Does anyone besides me play MOO2?

I don't think he meant longer in terms of the duration (turns). I suspect it was a reference to the time each turn takes to play over the net.

Waiting till it is your turn again is probably the issue.

I know. Therefore I mentioned above "(even measured in hours)". Of course the both things are correlated a bit.

Hmmm. We dont play hotseat. You have your turn simultaneously. Only in battle this problem occurs.

Just stumbled onto this website. Love MOO II but my machine won't let me play it anymore. It's one of my favoritest simulations ever!

What is the issue with your PC? Have you tried MoSlo? That is what I use to run MooII.

I still consider MOO II to be my all time favourite game (possibly alongside Total Annihilation).

CIV IV is a strong contender for the top spot though.

I still play MOO II now and then. It rocks....

I see the MOO1 secession games, and occasionally people talk about MOO3, but MOO2 never seems to be mentioned. I don't have MOO1 and I much prefer MOO2 over MOO3.

I don't like MOO1 - i hated it. But then i discovered MOO2 - it was so beautifull. An all time favorite ...

Ppl talk about MOO3 just to say how bad does it suck.

Don't worry, games such as MOO2 will always be played - great games stay in history.

I actually played it 2 months ago - i wanted to play a fun strategy game in space.

I still play MOO2. I've had it for God knows how long, and I still play it. Only a handful of other games fall into that category. I still play the old C&C games from time to time, and SMAC. And yes, even Doom... and that's about it.

Having said that, I would still play Imperium Galactica (1) but I've never got it to work on anything newer than the PC I first had it on (long resigned to the scrap heap).

My last MOO2 game was 2 or 3 months ago... only a matter of time before I play again, I know :)

Actually yes, not too long ago. It ran the intro video, but the rest of the game wouldn't work. I could see the start screen of the game - you know, it starts zoomed in on the planet you start on. But if I tried to do ANYHING - select something, move viewpoint, change screen, whatever - it would freeze the whole system and I'd have to reboot. Or the game would just crash, I forget which. Either way, not good.

The last time I tried IG1 it would not even install, but that was not on XP and did not have any tools. I wonder if MoSlo would work on it. IIRC it was a strictly dos game.

Anyway I have had issues with the mouse on Moo2 and Ascendancy. MoSlo fix Mo2 and DosBox fixed Ascendancy.

Odd really, MOO2 has always run fine on xp for me, and Ascendancy ran under windows 95 emulation, as I recall... but I never had to use any other software to get them both working, though Ascendancy suffered from slow mouse issues.

I have had them working under XP on some macjhines, but others had problems. I think it is an issue with the different motherboards.

The sticky mouse was a killer for Ascendancy, so DOsBox it is.

Weird game, Ascendancy. Not actually all that great when you think about it, but it was the first strategy game I ever played (turn based or real time), and without it I may never have even discovered the likes of civ and moo. One thing I did love about it though was the star lanes concept, and also I liked the ship design aspect (possibly even more than I liked MOO2's).

By the way, speaking of old, great strategy games - anyone here managed to get Fragile Allegiance working on xp?

I played FA a bit way back, but I have not had it in some time. Ascendancy was very weak from the challenge standpoint, but it had some great (at that time) sound and animations.

It did not stack up to Moo1, but it did offer refit of ships and that was first for me.
