Does anyone try to build The Pyramids?

Yes,if there are 6 or more shielded grasslands around the capital
+ fresh water and there is no close neighbor.

At what level do you usually play and how developped are you in 1200 AD on that level? /me is curious.

I've only recently moved up from Regent to Monarch and, from the 5 games or so i've played on that level i think I may be in the early industrial age by 1200AD.

Maybe I should've quoted Pounder because I wanted his reply :p. But I'm on Monarch too (usually) and currently wasting my time in 1645 with my modern and large army.

I would like to note that in about 1200AD I'm deep into the mop-up stage, usually. :smug:

I've even launched on Emperor at 1285AD, no wonders except the Knight's Templar and the usual Industrial and Modern Wonders.

If you built the pyramids, or captured them, what effect would that have on converting citizens from captured towns. I mean, if you capture a town, I am assuming the next citizen that grows in that town has the same nationality as your civ, right? Would this mean that citizens would get converted faster than if there were no granary in the captured city?

Re: I am considering building the pyramids in the upcoming gotm.

I like the pyramids but they are defedently not the most important wonder id say some of the most important ones are lighthouse, because i like the sea travel and the extra move

I also like knights templar and that other wonder that produces ancient cavalry (im having a brain cramp right now) cs these produce pretty strong units for free while the city could be building something else and not military.

Also i NEVER build sun tzus art of war because by the time i get the tech or am finished with it all my citys already have barracks sooooo its pointless...

Let me tell you something: I never build barracks. My parole is to wipe out the civ closest to me before 2000 BC. By then you have established a reputation they shouldn't mess with you. The enemies usually stay quiet until I have better units and/or Sun Tsu. And then it's party time!

Only if I get an early SGL.

I will try to make sure all my neighbors know masonry so they can build it for me. Building the Pyramids is like a big flashing "ATTACK HERE" sign for my army.

That's a mistake. The AI starts with extra units and fighting regs with regs is suicide.

I used to build them in every game. And still build them if I can.

Why has no one mentioned wonder addiction?

I no NEVER build a ancient great wonder, and only start wonder building in the late middle ages-industrial age (should have put more industrial wonders :( ). I can now win sometimes...

I don't get all this "wonder addiction" talk, yes, it's not very practical when playing the more difficult levels, but surely there's a lot of people that think the most rewarding part to the game is actually beating the AI in building these wonders. You don't really get the same sense of achievement gaining these wonders through conquest, as you do when you manage to build them yourself. I'm not saying it's a necessity to have these wonders, it's more to do with the fact each person has a differing perspective on what's important and what's not

Lets be honest, most early wonders are obsolete once you have the necessary force to remove them from the AI's control. I very rarely, if at all, have the necessary troops available (other than defensive garrisons) until Knights come into play, why? Because I find it a pain in the ass moving swordsman, archers and spears one tile at a time. I don't bother with Horsemen either as I tend to lose them more often than not.

I don't build them. If they get built by someone on a different continent, that's fine. They won't be coming for me anytime soon, I'll be able to fight off any invasion due to lousy naval AI, and it's denied to my immediate rivals.

I play emperor, I don't have a 1200 save of my current game, but this is where I am at 1555, mid-industrial. I do not promote advancement in the game, in fact I usually try to stifle it if possible as I hate reaching the point of nuclear war.

My favorite build with a SGL, however it costs too much to build them from scratch, better conquer.
Still the benefice is relatif to the map size and structure.
Sometimes I just offer masonry to my whole continent so the AI points me my next victim...
