Does Byzantium's bonus belief only apply to them?

Do I still benefit from their bonus belief if it's a follower belief, or does their bonus belief apply only to them?

Byzantium is my neighbor and they just founded their religion with pagodas and cathedrals. I was considering my own religion, but honestly, I'm pretty content with just adopting theirs if I can benefit from both of these follower traits. Even better if she picks religious centers when she enhances!

That depends what type of belief they select as their bonus. If they pick another pantheon or follower belief, you benefit.

Go Byzantines. I think I'd just follow along with them. Pagodas and cathedrals and you don't have to deal with the missionary headache. Bring on the spam.

Underpowered. Poland gets a policy every age, but Byzantines only get one belief, and even that can get shared. I say they need a buff to ensure they get a religion.

Haha, this is exactly what I'm doing!

Theodora: "Can I haz open borders?"

Me: "Sure can!"

She chose guruship as her third follower belief. Considering I'm Rome, I like that for the hammer synergy with my civ trait.

So I'm getting pagodas, cathedrals, and guruship with no effort into producing faith. Byzantium is just a three city empire while I'm a sprawling empire who's reduced The Huns to one city and liberated/revived Siam and Persia from the Huns. This might be one of my most successful games so far.

There is one crutch, though. She chose World Church for her founder belief and she seems to target culture related wonders. That might prove to be a problem later on down the road since I'm aiming for my first science victory.

The bonus applies only to the religion that the byzantine makes and doesn't apply to the civilization as a whole.

If the ERE has two Pantheon beliefs (choosing an extra Pantheon as their bonus), note that you only get one of the Pantheon benefits (NOT the bonus Pantheon) through Piety's Religious Tolerance.
