Does Civ4 Have a Minimum Resolution?

I quickly looked at the FAQs but I didn't see an answer, so here we go.

I'm getting the dreaded Failed to Initialize Renderer error on my Acer Aspire One. I understand that a common fix for this is to make sure Civ4 launches at a resolution that's acceptable to your adapter/monitor.

I went into the configuration file and changed the custom resolution to 1024x600, which is the resolution of the netbook. Trying to launch BTS now yields a slightly different error: "Initialize Renderer failed. Check DirectX Installation, Latest Graphics Drivers and Graphics Settings Parameters:" and then proceeds to describe the resolution as 1024x768, which is obviously not what I tried to set it to.

I figured I'd see what would happen if I left it at default resolution but enabled the Windowed flag, but I get the exact same result.

I'm starting to think that maybe Civ4 simply won't allow resolutions with less than 768 vertical lines, which seems to be a really bad choice given the proliferation of 720p televisions. Is this correct, or is there actually a way to get the game to run at low resolutions?

Edit: For those who don't know, the Acer Aspire One is a 9" laptop with the following specs:
Intel Atom 1.7GHz
1GB DDR2 RAM
120GB Hard drive
1024x600 screen resolution
Intel GMA950
WinXP
I have the latest drivers for my chipset and I have installed installed both the latest DirectX dist and the version that comes with Civ4.
The AAO doesn't come with an optical drive so I'm emulating one with Daemon Tools and running off an image of BTS disk 1.

Hey had this same problem with my dell mini. I disabled the default resolution in the CivilizationIV.ini which got me to the game menu which displayed an error telling me that my computer hardware was below the minimum spec & can't run the game. Surely a patch could fix this & let us netbook owners join the fun

Right just got it working on a external monitor. It still gave the hardware error, but I was able to play the game. But I'd prefer not to have to take another monitor along to play it on the train.
