Does keeping the AI at war cause weariness

If I stay at war constantly with the AI enemy, will that eventually cause them to fall out of Republic or Demo, and into anarchy?

And if they do change govts, will they keep going back and forth between govts if I alternately declare war and peace with them?

Would that slow them down enough to be a worthwhile tactic?

i sure hope so, but as the AI usually plays fascism it makes little diffenrence

It does affect them as best as I can tell. The do change back and for at time, but often will just go to Fascism and stay there. As you move up they get lower max transition time from 4 at Monarch to 1 at Sid.

So switching does not really bother them much, in terms of anarchy.

I have seen a couple of AI towns go into disorder, actual smoke coming out of them. And spy missions have shown cities full of entertainers. Especially if they are in Republic or Democracy. The Celts seem to go straight for Fascism, switch then go ape.

I remember noticing, during a game a while back, that the Dutch were a democracy. I thought maybe, just maybe, if I killed enough units and captured enough cities, that WW would get the better of them and they'd revolt. No such luck. I don't recall investigating their cities, so I don't know how many clowns they had, but I just couldn't cause the revolt I wanted to see.

I have seen times when a civ stay in Demo for the longest time and I was playing AW with them. They can surely do that, but it will cost them something.

They either need lots of lux/slider/jokers and happy structures. The bad news is that they pay less for structures and will have them in many cities.

I do not know what determines when they will switch though.

As you guys predicted ; after 400 years of war, the Koreans finally gave up on Democracy and switched to Fascism. I have two cav armies and eighteen Dromons pillaging their empire, so I cant see how they lasted that long. They have no lux, and no resources. That oughta slow em down!

Try stationing units in their territory. That'll get em'.

 Doesn't even sound like you should have gone to the trouble

Actually it worked out pretty well. I had conquered my own continent under Monarchy by the time I started the war with Korea, who were about even with me in science , size and military. After they switched to Fascism, I declared peace and went Demo - at this point I am more than a dozen techs ahead and way ahead in the score. I have about fifty developed cites with factories and barracks, and I built Hoover Dam. They declared war on me when I tried to plant a spy, so I switched to Commie and am fighting their Cavs , frigates and Riflemen with Mech Infantry , cruisers and bombers. And my ancient dromons are back again pillaging along the coast. Basically they are toast.

I checked CIV assist and Communism slows my research by 20 percent (800 beakers against 1000) vs Demo, but its still got a big advantage over fascism.

The falling government only applies to Democracy, but not to the Republic. But, anyway I am not sure whether AI governments fall at all, because I have made similar observations to that of vmxa or Nergal, i.e. AI Democracies full of the most insane WW. So, either AI Democracies do not fall at all, or the AI just keeps on reselecting Democracy time and again.

I think an AI empire full of clowns is the best thing that can happen to you anyway.

I think its quite a complicated assessment they make. Possibly taking into account worker efficiency, and definitely on a research/commerce basis. They dont account for gross AI worker stupidity. Or, like Civ Assist, the effect of no WW, or having to juggle entertainment and specialists. If Democracy is there they will opt for it, providing they get least turns in anarchy. I've seen big growers like Shaka, Celts, Iros, even the Byzantines hit Fascism or Communism then go for a Conquest or Domination VC, if its the only way to stop the player.

In my experience, if the AI is a war for very long, this will eventually switch from Democracy to Fascism, if they have it. This will also slow down their research and stagnate their economy, since they will lose a bunch of citizens.
