Does not run without CD (+ no previous installation found)

Hello. I have a twofold problem. :(

1) When I try to start BTS, it says the game needs a CD. Does it? I haven't played in months, but I thought I could play the game without the CD back then... I do not have a CD; I purchased the CD version of CIV complete/gold/whatever, vanilla+warlords+bts, but the CD is not physically with me. I left it when I moved, thinking I could always play the game without a CD.

IF the answer to the above is "d'oh yes", then did not 1.74 make Civ4 playable without a CD? And if I have BTS, don't I also have that CIV vanilla? So that if BTS is not non-CD-playable, shouldn't CIV vanilla be? I've tried running the vanilla game, but the message of CD requirement is the same.

2) On the subject of the above paragraph, I tried to install 1.74 - just to make sure. But no, it's
"The setup has detected that no previous version of [CIV4 is installed]
The update requires [all my patience and then some]"
Help would be thoroughly appreciated...

I have tried to update with 1.61 just to be certain, but that reports the same fault.

Does the stuff that the second poster in this thread says stand today? That BTS isn't playable without a CD?
:(

If you have bought it with seperate discs or the European version of Complete (no Colonization), Civ 4 vanilla and Warlords need the disc for all versions, BTS needs the disc for all versions except for the latest patch 3.19. BTS patch 3.19 was released after the thread you linked to.

If you have bought the US version of Complete (includes Colonization) that does not need the disc to play for any of the games.

If you have BTS that will already have patched Civ 4 to 1.74.

EU, quite correct as you say.

INTERROGATIVE CAN I hm, can I download.. 3.13, 3.17 and then 3.19, install all these without a CD, and then play without a CD? :) ... or, wow, I don't know which one I currently have. Might be 3.02 for all I know.

In theory you should just have to download and install 3.19, you have to do that outside the game anyway as the in-game installer doesn't work with 3.19. In practice many people find installing 3.17 first helps 3.19 install properly, so it may be worth downloading and installing 3.17 before 3.19 if you can. I'm not sure what your version would be patched to, so if it doesn't install skip it and go to 3.19. And yes you can do it outside the game. You won't be able to run vanilla and Warlords but at least it will get BTS going. Just hope you don't have to re-install. At least it is cheap to replace now.

Fantastic, good sir! Much appreciate the effort. :) Will come here and spew my dissatisfaction, should none of these measures have an effect.

(I have a 5GB monthly bandwidth cap. I am at 2.5 on the 10th. I was hoping the BTS patches would not need touching.]
