Sorry if this is a bit simple, but ive just installed the new patch and was wondering will it alter my current game when i load it later? Will i play under the new rules?

Thank you,
Simo

You will play under the 1.29 rules yes, but it shouldn't alter your current game.

What about peoples' modded .bic files edited after 1.21? Will those work under the 1.29 rules, OR, will we have to re-edit the entire thing (which will take HOURS)? If so, it will be a major pain in the butt. Major. My old (the one I had yesterday) .bic is in Scenarios now and I want to be sure that plays under the 1.29 rules. It has been heavily edited.

I loaded mine up just fine.. and when i loaded up an old game with that bic it worked fine also :)

It didn't for me.

I loaded a saved game that was played with my modded .bic file, the one it took me forever to edit, and I got an error message.

Worse, I tried to start a game from that .bic now in the Scenarios folder. . . and I got this:

Someone else mentioned this in another thread today.. i don't remember where it was but.. Mike B responded to this question. The answer he posted was to use the import feature under the new editor then save the bic under the new format.

Try this out and see if it works :)

I tried it. It imports and saves my file and seems to work OK AFAIK!

"Import feature"? Sigh. I'll look into this. . .

I'm currently getting two errors: the modded .bic file (1.21) now in a folder in Scenario can't be opened.

The OTHER problem prevents me from opening saved games, and that reads "Missing entry in text/pedialcons ICON_BLDG_INTERNET".

Internet being the G. Wonder that I replaced the Manhattan Project with (for reasons I related elsewhere).

>>#ICON_BLDG_Manhattan_Project
SINGLE
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\manhattanprojectlarge.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\buildings\manhattanprojectsmall.pcx<<

That is the above hunk of text I would assume needs replacement, unless this "import feature" takes care of it.

I feel like I'm jumping into a can of worms. . . here goes. . .

Zouave: This is just an educated guess.. but .. the reason your missing those entries is because the game overwrote both of those files on the install to 1.29f. This was mentioned in the bug thread if i remember right. And i also noted it when i installed here.

I hope you kept a backup of those files.. otherwise you will have to go in a fix them :(

OK, the verdict is in, at least as far as starting new games or re-starting saved ones.

Good heads up on the Import feature.

That IMPORT feature worked. My modded rules in the old .bic are now in the new one post 1.29 installation. The game starts. Now the saved games also start, that after I went into the .txt files and changed some names around to the appropriate GW.

We shall see if this thing crashes during an entire game. But so far it is OK.

i have the same problem with the "corrupt files". ARGGGHH!

my problem is a little diff i suppose.
I have no problem opening old bic files (as i have the 1.21 patch installed - waiting for the 1.29 crack to come out for the patch). However i have problems opening files i have created on civ edit v1.29 .maybe it is due to the fact i dont have 1.29 installed on the civ3 exe. As a test i did the following:-

-found a bic file that i had created on civedit from v1.07 or 1.21
-opened it in civ3 and played 1 turn (to check it worked)
-then opened this bic in the v1.29 civ edit
-saved it without making any changes
-tried to open it in civ3 and it came up with the "corrupt" message

So it must be some link between using the civ edit v 1.29 and only having the 1.21 patch installed. So it looks likely that u must yave the 1.29 patch installed to play scenarios!

All games will use the rules they started with not the current rules.
They will use the new interface things like wake all.
With the civilopedia add do not replace the entries and backup before you install the patch.

The game/editor is backwards compatible and not forwards compatible, you can open old SAVs/BICs in the new game/editor editor and not new SAVs/BICs in the old game/editor.

Yes, there is a link between the Civ3Editor and the Civ3.exe. They both need the same file structure. The NEW 1.29f Civ3ED file format is different than the 1.21f file format; new things were added.

Hence, the 1.21f Civ3.exe file doesn't recognize the new file format. This happens to all programs that have additions that require a new file format. Try to open an MS Access XP database using MS Access97 ... or a WORD XP file with Word version 4.0. WON'T HAPPEN.

You can continue to play your 1.21f saved games and scenario .bic files .. as long as you DON'T load them into the new editor.

Sorry for this simple question. . I downloaded and installed the latest patch featured but when I ran the game I was asked to put the Civ3 CD in. I did as instructed but I still received the same message. I feel I'm just missing a step or so in the installation so I hope there's someone willing to help.:king:
