Does terrain affect goody huts?

Maybe this is well-covered territory (so to speak), but my search-fu here yielded nothing. So... does terrain type affect the chances of getting various things from a goody hut?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but that's not from me diving through code so don't quote me on that.

As far as I know the answer is no.
Even if this was true it would probably be hidden somewhere in the SDK and I am not interested to search every cpp file in Civ 4.
But in the CIV4GoodyInfos.xml there is a tag that states the chance of that goody appearing, for example I think the hostile villagers has a 20% chance of triggering.

Terrain makes no difference as to the probability of what item you receive.

One thing to note though, terrain makes a difference to where goody huts are. You won't find a goody hut in the jungle, for instance, or in a mountain range.

You, always spot on. Neither they will appear over ice.. not so sure about the jungle though.

This intrigued me. So I rolled up a map with Lock modified assets off. Large tropical hemispheres. Go into WB and see where the huts are. Could be there are fewer huts in the jungle belt (not sure about that either tho?), but I'm seeing some in there:

Good job! There is another to the right behind those mountains. Might the tribal villages be over a flat grassland or do they indeed go within the jungle feature itself?
I would presume the later.

EDIT: nope the one at the right is within a forest.

Good point, but that's a tropical map. Every time I roll a non tropical map, there are no huts in the jungle, just on the periphery of it. I think the panthers scare the villagers away, tbh. :p

Just a pointless point of interest, speaking of panthers... Did you know that I once put cheetahs in BAT? They were so fast that you didn't even see them before your warrior/scout was killed. I took them out after that.

If huts didn't appear in jungle, it shouldn't matter which map one used or other settings (except maybe boreal and rainforest). But okay, I rolled up a temperate map now, and it's the same there. Huts still appear in the jungle. Was pretty sure I had popped huts in jungle before, so the statement sounded a bit off, hence why I checked it in WB.
Spoiler :
Not even looked at the other continents yet, but this shows it anyhow.

Plus, there actually isn't that big a difference between jungle and temperate maps. More jungle for sure, but the bigger difference is probably in ice and tundra. Forest count is mostly the same, although probably more forests in the colder regions on a jungle map. At least on Terra and B&S, when I checked this some years ago with Modern era mapfinder runs.

Why isn't the Cheetah mod in your sig line? :mischief: As someone who once got infracted for arguing too vehemently about Bears being in and Crocodiles being out, I have a deep and abiding interest in better animals.

I don't count those huts as actually being in the jungle. They are on the periphery of the jungle. Not in the jungle proper. :P

Cheetahs were so OP there was no way I could leave them in. And if I released the Cheetah mod, I would be lynched after the first few games people played.

Nah, nah, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just specifying the nuances as I see them. Maybe I'm just more neurotic than you are. ;)
