Does your having the GLib affect the AI's research?

Hello.

I know this is probably an illusion, but I'm under the odd feeling that, when you build the Great Library, the AI either stops doing research or stops trading techs.
I have completed the GLib in 10 AD and got the usual load of free techs on the following turn (NOT including education!). But it is now 570 AD and I didn't obtain anything new since then, even though I haven't done any research whatsoever and I'm in contact with every civ. Three of them are isolated, but the four others are in mutual contact and rather well developped. I find it hard to believe that none of them has discovered anything new and traded it to at least another one. This has to be an AI conspiracy against me! ;)

The general tech pace of the game will slow because you are no longer contributing to research. The GL is only useful at higher levels or for filling in gaps in your own research unless you like the slow tech pace.

what difficulty are you on? at lower levels, it will greatly decrease the global tech pace

Did it stop right when the Medieval Age started? It has happened to me, and it is because the AIs don't have Markets and Libraries up yet, and the Medieval Techs are more expensive.

Indeed! When completing the GLib, I obtain almost every missing ancient techs. But you're right, Med techs are about twice as expensive. Furthermore, different civs can take different research paths (although most of them seem to go rather towards the lower part of the tech tree).

I'm experiencing the exact same thing you describe and I was wondering myself. The middle ages techs have just started to trickle in--but I had chickened out and was doing my own research again (what a waste of gold). I think I might try the "Great Library Loan" and see how that works out.
