Hey All,

So I've been playing this Immortal game with the Zulu and I'm almost finished it, aiming for the domination victory. But there's one problem, being Greece. He has half of the city states in the map, (world congress votes were halved between us) and he's got a much bigger army than me. I want to use Xcoms and Stealth Bombers but I'm wondering how many of each do I need and what's the best way to attack Greece. I don't have alot of experience with late game strategies so advice would be welcome.

The save is attached if anybody wants to look through it. If anybody wants the 4000Bc save I can also provide it. Edit and screenshots are added to this post.

Screenshots would be nice.

Can you put a spy in his cap, then stealth bomber it and jump in a bunch of xcom to capture it the following turn?

There's a Diplomat already in Athens which shows a lot of units around the city. I'm not sure if it's within Stealth Bomber range of your existing cities, but it looks within Atomic Bomb range of Melbourne, which looks to be the nearest place you could bring a carrier without a DoW. He built his cities close together, so you could plant a spy in Halicanarssus or Corinth and nuke Athens from Melbourne, which would allow you to drop XCOMs within 3 tiles of Athens.

ah yes, I had some issues with XCOMs because they need a field of vision. I obviously can't open the save right now but I'm going to assume you're gonna need a lot of XCOMs to bring him down. It would help if you had Blitz

Ill add screenshots in a bit, I posted this pretty late last night, just before I was going to go to sleep. I don't think My xcoms have blitz, Im not too familiar with blitz either. Ill check to see if Athens is within atom bomb range of Melbourne, if its not should I consider Nuclear Missiles? And should I still wait for Stealth bombers or just attack now?

Edit: also I'm worried that if I wait too long, Greece will get Atom Bombs too.

Edit 2: also after checking the save I havent met Melbourne yet so i cant declare war to drop xcoms into it yet.

If you have Alhambra, and have Total War from Autocracy you can build/buy the XP buildings and rush buy X-COMs in that city. They start with Drill 1, and you can get blitz on them from the start. With Blitz, your X-COMs can para-drop AND attack on the same turn. So basically you build enough bombers and nukes to drop city health to 0 in a single turn, and get Athens the turn you DoW them. This triggers the DomVictory so you don't have to deal with any repercussions.

If you don't have autocracy the only other way is to have both Alhambra and Brandenburg Gate in the same city, but this is quite hard, since you rarely get to build Alhambra yourself.

The alternative would be to surround Athens with X-COMs and hope that at least one survives the turn, so you can get it the next turn. Don't worry about the troops near Athens because they will die if you use a nuclear missile.

I decided to go for order because it had more policies to help me out in terms of happiness, but now in hindsight, I regret it and wished I had gone for autocracy instead now. I like the suggestion of autocracy +Alhambra for blitz on the xcoms though. I think ill reload and try that.

Don't I also have to take Madrid to get the victory? I can nuke it with a missile from melbourne but I wont have line of sight vision on it.

And if anybody is wondering I have the diplomat in Greece's cap for culture reasons, so I can push back some of the pressure from ideology and dissidents, also the main reason why I went for order and the happiness route.

Just won this game, part of the problem was that I was too passive in the early game, and I learnt this from a recent multilayer loss when i got my bows and was too scared to use them. I reloaded to about t115 too out the AI's one by one. This really helped a lot, and I didn't bribe Greece into Spain so he could roll over them again.

In the endgame I went for a captured Alhambra in Madrid, Xcoms with blitz, Stealth Bombers, and two nukes one of which was on a missile carrier, took out Athens and Kyoto and Won the Game.

Thanks to everybody for the advice, and here are some screens of the final result.

With Blitz, your X-COMs can para-drop AND attack on the same turn.

How does that work? XCOM can usually move on the same turn as the drop anyway. But Blitz lets them attack too? I would not have expected that, and never tried it.

Congrats!!!

How many XCOMS and Stealth Bombers did you have? I have only manage single-cap end game strikes -- and I needed nuke missile (maybe two, A-bombs were never enough) and six XCOMS. Anything less than that had too much of a chance to fail.

I believe I had 10-12 but i think i could've gotten away with less considering that I only had to take Greece out in one turn and with Blitz I could get away with that. I used nuclear missiles on a missile carrier to take Kyoto too. Also you have to build the xcom in the city that has Alhambra, you wont get the extra promotion if you buy it in that city or anywhere else.
