Domination - no leader

Finished a game last night. Monarch level, small map, playing as the Greeks, pangea. Do have a save if anyone is interested.

I finished the game around 1400AD or so with a domination victory. The reason Im posting is because I did not get one leader the entire game. Obviously I had numerous wars in the game. In the early game I eliminated the Americans, Romans, and Egyptians. I drove the Iroquois from the main continent onto an island. I had numerous border clashes with the Aztecs until i finally reached Military Tradition and drove them from the main continent as well.

Right about the time I was finishing it occurred to me that I had not received any leaders that game. Had quite a few victories with elites, has to be at least 50-60 vistories with no leaders.

Wierd and annoying. The herioc epic is major culture producer and the military academy is a great late game shield wharehouse. I hate having them dependent on something as vague as leader generation.

I too have had a domination win without a leader. Since then I have learned to use my elite units as much as possible, especially when I'm attacking a weak unit.

There is definately an art to maximizing your use of Elite units while at the same time protecting them from stronger opponents. I made a lot of changes to how I did this in my last game (the Firaxis changes for Elite GL producers in the 1.29f patch are a tremendous help), and it made a huge difference in the number of leaders I produced.

It is especially fun once you get to tanks and can attack more than once per turn.

Very sucky......

I have long since been advocating an increasing chance of getting a leader after long draughts......

That's unfortunate. Start a new game. I bet on you generating a lot of leaders next time - law of averages.

started a new game 2 days ago. so far im into the late industrial age without one leader. you think there is a "No Leader" switch that I accidently hit? I can tbelieve ive gone thru 2 games with no leaders. I might have to start using militaristic civs.

Indirectly, the odds improve drastically if you're military civ. Much lower war weariness leads to longer wars, faster healing leads to less loss of elite/veteran units, cheap barracks lead to more veterans earlier, faster promotions lead to more elites, and all of the above advantages lead to many more wars. I like this, because I like the fighting, but I really wish there were ways of peacefully creating great leaders. I've had numerous games with non-militaristic civs with no GL, and always have multiple leaders (3-6 per game, at least) with militaristic civs.

What's all this talk of . . . .

I don't think those are attributes of a militaristic civ. I think the cheap barracks / harbors / airports and the better odds at promotion are militaristic traits, but the others above may just be your in-game perceptions?

I think you don´t get a leader when you have music turn off try it if you don´t believe me

What???? I will try that out when i get my next leader.... reload, music off - then we will see.....

I always play with music off, and almost always with all sound off, and I assure you that I still get leaders.

Now, if someone could tell me how to keep the birds from chirping, even with all sounds off . . .

I never tried to compare, there are so many other variables and you can't just run a valid test on citizen moods from game to game (playing standard rules and maps), but my military civs always seem to love me when we're at war even if I start them just for fun.

I thought that military civs healed 2/turn when fortified outside of a city instead of 1/turn - I need to check on this, it is likely that it's just my perception and it will be easy to verify either way. I will be disappointed if you ruin my delusion.;)

What happens if you rename the folder : "\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Sounds\Ambience Sfx"? Does the game crash, or just not play the chirping sounds? I renamed the pre-game movie file so it wouldn't play every time I started the game, so hopefully this will work the same. I can check this out tonight.

And I agree with you, I always turn off the music and I get a plenty of leaders when I fight.

:goodjob: Great suggestion. I will also try it the next time I play (but that may be several days). If you try it out would you PM me just so I know a solution has been found? Thanks in advance.

And I'm sorry if I deprived you of a perfectly good delusion ;).

i got a leader last night so ill stop complaining. nothing like building the heroic epic in 1875 or so.

one leader in 1 3/4 games. definetly going with a militaristic civ next game.

Oh you're a sarcastic little devil aren't you? I saw another thread where you made one of these comments too. Very nasty and particularly unhelpful. Keep up the good work! :goodjob:

That's crap. I always have the music turned off, and I don't have any problems getting a Leader.

I have had games where i play a nonmilitaristic civ and not gotten a leader. change to a militistic civ and watch a lot more leaders appear.
