I always play using Augustus Ceaser or Frederik,Epic and 2 continents.

Having played a few Immortal level games and of course reloading to correct errors, because of the fact i just recently stopped playing on Emperor. All with the aim of winning at least a Diplomatic or Domination victory.

Some changes have taken-place in how i initially set-up the land i settle at the start.I no longer build cottages instead i build farms. As a consiquence i use more specialists for research, bulbing and the wonders e.t.c.
The reason for the farms is basicly to use slavery and at least build a basic army in 10 turns. This is always after Lib,when my great person production has somewhat stagnated and growing slowly.
At this point im always behind in tech and warring regularly, which means constantly whipping out armies to take the best land and cities within them (This requires a good army, hence whipping). The pay-off is of course, more cities, more whipping, more research et.c.

Untill i get Communism,my research because of whipping is for obvious reasons rather slow.I dont know how to better organise the structure that is a consequence of this playing style. This is my question, basicly i want the game play to be a little more fluid and research a little faster to enjoy the game more.

Note:When using rome if conditions are conducive i usually dont bother going Lib and finish Domination earlier.

You can cottage a few cities. Typically start them early as possible, make sure they have enough food to grow onto and farm the rest. You typically want to cottage your earliest cities so they have a chance to become towns in the early ads.

You could also rush with a 2-4 city base and then you have a ton o f land to grow on.
