Hi all-

Ever since moving up to Prince, which was right at the time 3.17 came out, I've had the hardest time getting a war victory, Domination and/or Conquest.

If CFC taught me anything, is that people seem to think Conquest is easier to win. Is this true? I would think that Domination is easier (60% land seems easier than wiping everyone off the globe.)

Bottom Line: I want to win a victory warring. Should I go for Domination or Conquest?

Wanna win conquest? Vassalize all your neighbors.
That don't sound good? Just raze every city you capture when your juggernaut gets rolling.
Wanna win domination? You'll probably have a lot more gaps between your wars to let your new cities' culture spread.

Depends on the map and settings, and events of the game.
I don't pick which until I start to gain control. If I lack gold, I might raze all cites on a continent or two and settle for conquest. Also, if I get some big vassals, it may make conquest easier. And typically I plan for conquest, and if I hit dom, I hit dom.

The big advantage conquest has is that if you vassalize everybody you get it.
Domination gets half from vassals, but you might avoid invading a continent or taking on a major power.

The other big thing is that if you start wth a lot of land and can REX like crazy, you might get a good part of the Dom limit without [major] wars

This, generally I take no vassals on my own continent, and in others I try to vassalize everyone as soon as possible, I usually still end up hitting domination with 1 or 2 civs left though. If you really want conquest, vassalize everyone past feudalism, but I personally don't care, a win is a win.

In practice I find I have to actively avoid domination (by razing cities cities I woud normally keep, and so on) in order to get a conquest victory. If you just take the approach of conquering your neighbours you'll probably hit domination before conquest.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he doesn't want conquest, he wants either, but wants to know which to aim for.

And while I had a long winded post before they both come down to this:
Kill and/or capitulate whoever I can, and if things turn desperate, turtle and go for culture :).

Domination is sometimes worse than conquest because you have to have a certain % of the world.
Conquest on a map like Terra is easy, but Domination isn't.

Thanks guys. Now I see how conquest can be easier.
If a leader gives me the "We're doing fine on our own" line, well they're gonna have to die then.

@GooglyBoogly: I dont turn off victories, but nice try:). yes the movie is great, I just never done it on Prince level since 3.17. (used to love the tanks w their collateral damage). I've won a culture and space race victory on prince tho

Re: capitulation.. I've done this before, conquering a large island and capitulating where I think Isabella joined and took over. I assume this counts to a conquest victory just like a vassal state.

Go for the miltiary UN win vote yourself leader with the help of some vassals :D
