Don't bother with BtS 3.03

Not that this isn't bad or anything, but turn off unit animations and turn on single unit graphics. The game runs so much faster this way. On a more personal level, though, if I wanted graphics I'd play an RTS game--TBS games are about gameplay, not graphics :P

You can say whatever you want reading from a TXT file... the truth is in the actual gameplay.

I'm not the only person this has happened to... I've read at least several reports from differant folks who all had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM when updating to v3.03 that combat animations get completely dorked-up. I can definately confirm from my own personal experience that pre-3.03 worked fine, switching to 3.03 messed-up my combat animations, and going back to a previous non-3.03 version restored my combat animations back to normal. Are you telling me I'm not experiencing these problems and it's all in my head because of a quote from a TXT file? I don't think so.

v3.03 ruined my combat animations, and I'm not going to use it ever again.

If anyone else has made the mistake of 'upgrading' to v3.03 and wants to go back to an earlier version, simply uninstall BtS (not Civ4) then reinstall BtS sans-3.03 upgrade. Doing so restored my combat animations to working as normal.

I'm not saying its all in your head, I'm saying its wierd that this patch is affecting your animations.

I'm just upset they released this with such an obvious glitch that would have been so easy to detect. Also, you had stated something to the effect that there was no documented change to graphics... well, documented or not, it's obviously there in v3.03 and it does effect the game (and I'm not alone).

For those saying "well, you shouldn't be using combat animations anyways, you should play on single unit graphics", that's a fine and dandy excuse to let Firaxis break something that wasn't broke before. If you bought a car and the FM Radio didn't work, I bet you wouldn't like me to tell you "what are you doing listening to FM Radio, you should be listening to CD's anyways".

To each their own... if I want Combat Animations and you don't, that's fine... it's your game, you play it how you want... but I like the combat animations (when they work), and I expect that if I "upgrade" a game with a newer version, things are supposed to be BETTER, not WORSE then before I patched.

Folks, comments like "well, if the combat animations don't work, just turn them off" are about as usefull as nipples on a bull. Really guys... don't need dumb comments like that around here.

Version 3.03 breaks the combat animations... simple enough... if you don't use combat animations, well you won't notice they are now broke... if you do use combat animations, you're either going to be upset or just shorted what you should be getting (working ones).

Nuff said! I'm happy to NOT be using v3.03 anymore!

I've heard too many bad things about the recent patch, I've decided to wait for now. One thing I was suggest, know matter what style you play, is use the settings that help keep the game stable for now, until the patch comes out. As was mentioned earlier, I believe this patch was released due to certain obligations and the actual patch will be out soon.

For now I can only suggest what others have said, use the less graphic options until a time comes where you don't have too. Or, just remove the patch and wait for the next one.

The only issue I've had with graphics is something that's been intermittent and has happened with all versions of CIV IV regardless of expansion, mod, or patch. Sometimes combat will not include any animation, sometimes it will. When it doesn't work it'll just show the units standing there doing nothing for the length of the combat, and then I'll get the message that says who won.
