Don't use the Stack of Death Strategy

Two things I would have done differently...

First I would not have used a fortress as a rally/heal spot. Use a city with a barracks. If none of the captured cities has a barracks then rush one. Units in a city with a barracks will heal to full in one turn if you don't move them. This allows quick recovery and helps prevent loss of defenders (they only need to survive with 1hp to be at full health next turn.) If you are worried about the defensive value of the town because it is too small or some such then be sure to rush some city walls.

In regards to Miami, if you plan to make your Alamo stand there the Barracks is essential. While having the airport there has advantages I would build it in one of your previously captured cities farther back from the front lines. It adds an extra turn for reinforcements to arrive, but at least your airport cannot be taken so easily, or bombed. In this situation, with your quickly dropping population I'd also try to rush some walls. Once you get your fighter support then civil defense is another good item to rush. If you think you can defend it, create a radar tower. Once you get up a few essential structures and fighter support most attacks will be like waves breaking on the rocks and you should be able to make up for losses by reinforcing from your airport.

I'm not saying that those would work, but that's just what I would have done differently. =)

I find it interesting that they ai was using RA properly. If you can reload a point in the game with them bombarding your city, get a screenshot and send it to SOTD (Thunderfall). It'll be months before its posted, but it would be cool!

Be sure to cut the enemy's supply lines to cut off his reinforcments (view the terrain only map to find his local aluminom & oil resources) and take them out as well as his roads to the front. If you sever the roads around their capital, it will hurt them extra bad. Economic warfare is the key.

Hehehe, the Stack of Death helped me win this online PTW game :)

My Immortals and soon horseman ran everybody over!

Wildfire, an SoD usually refers to 50 to 100+ units at a time.

I'd call your stack a mini-SoD at best. :)

Only 3 spearmens  unless you have lost alot then i would get some more protecting those imortals...

When I take a city, I usually send only enough to assure victory.. like 6 - 10 units. The AI sends a real SOD when they only need a few.
But if you invade a continent, and they have a large army and rails... they can send every unit on the continent to your gates next turn... and will.

You must cut their roads before you land, and or block their movement. When I took england I cut the road, and then put a stack of infantry just outside York, in a choke point. She did not have enough units in York to force her way past, and so lost London. But that was an Island... With continental resources, I would first bomb and bombard the rails and resources on the coast, and then land offensive and defensive troops at (EG) Miami, Middle east coast dity, NewYork, and New England, whatever city names are there. Hitting all four or five at once forces them to divide their troops, and you have better chance of establishing one or more beachheads.

When I land on enemy soil I am almost immediately attacked by a SOD. The weird thing is that if I've sent enough troops in myself it is a simple matter of who's got the better SOD. Afterward, if I've won it is usually a matter of cleaning up afterward. Once they've attacked with their SOD they don't have anything left. I may be attacked by a stray unit here and there, but am not terribly challenged the rest of the war.

For anyone who is interested, in my game that I was telling you about you'll remember that my problem was that I went into anarchy right after making peace with the Americans. They sneak attacked right after that and I was unable to create reinforcements to save the city of Miami, thus losing it. I also was attacked by a SOD with over forty RA and about twenty or thirty MI.

Some leftover troops landed - about forty mixed MI and MA. Realizing that Miami was lost (and that I had a saved game from right before going into Anarchy) I went after the SOD with everything I had. As soon as I took the RA I moved all of my aircraft out of Miami to carriers and most of my MI out to cover the SOD. I then went from city to city - one square at a time - taking out Washington (razed) Boston (razed) and Atlanta (razed). Seattle is my next objective, however I won't raze that one since it has three wonders in it. Oh, and with all of the nuking I've been doing the Chinese and Germans have declared war on me. Silly sods. They don't have SDI. I cooked them.

Communist is a very good wartime governement, i realy dont understand those who dont like it, maybe they dont know how to use it properly.

If you have a well devloped empire but not too much city ( no more than 2 time OCN ), built courthouse and police station in each city ( even the capital and forbiden palace ) then swithch to coomunist, most of the time i am able to produce modern armor in 1 turn easily ( war time mobilisation + factory+ nuclear plant, ect...).

So use disdanded units to rush built airport ( it cost much less doing that that to buy as a democraty ), if i remenber well 1 modern armor give 30 shield so you got a temple with 2 disbanded units and so on.

republic is not good for war into a.i. cultural border, monarchy realy suck when your city are far from palace ( more than 50 % corruption while commi about 10 % is maximum.

I always wage modern war as communist and i am able to conquier the entire world. ( regent level to emperor).

I tried communism only once... and didn't like it. Long time ago, but I didn't like the corruption level, and the low productivity.

I am currently playing on a real world huge map, attempting a conquest/ domination goal, playing Greek (Regency)
I have consolocdiated all af Europe, England, Aisia (except for a small Chinese area -- and they have been allies from the beginning) Yes, I know it might not last. North Africa, Will sweep SouthAfrica next, while mounting an invasion force for D-Day on America. Democracy can fall in war, and that can be disastrous. I ihave had it fall when every city in the empire (except those smaller than 6) were in WLTK...
In 1810, I have now been at war since 990AD, with an occasional break for peace. I do have war wesariness.. but so far it is under control. It helps that they have declared war on me, except for America, and that one was because of an MPP.
My palace is still in Athens, and I built the Forbidden Palace in India, so most of my empire is productive.

As to the SOD, if you survive the initial retaliation, you are right, that is all they have. ANd then if you cut roadways, eliminate resources and luxuries, and take out their most productive cities, the rest is history.
