Hey all

I've been using DOSBox for a while now, and I'm not quite satisfied with the results. There a few problems I encounter:

  1. Uses a large amount of processing power
  2. Becomes really slow further into the game, probably because calculating all the AI's movements
  3. Heats my computer up when I increase the amount of CPU cycles, and doesn't improve the wait speeds significantly

I am running WinXP and Pentium M 2.0 Ghz with 2x512mb of DDR2 ram clocked at 533Mhz (PREY runs perfectly)

So, anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hm, I had such problems with DosBOX, but not when playing Civ1. Maybe smth is wrong with your DosBOX settings. I have Celeron 2.0/512DDR.

I have WinXP, Mobile Pentium 1.4GHz and 512MB RAM, and haven't had problems with DOSBox yet, despite playing much more advanced games, such as Settlers II. Did you try to tinker with the cycle settings? I found that around 15,000 works just fine, without too much drain on my system.

I also do some work in DOSBox, especially when using some legacy texts written in a DOS application (t602) or database files (dBASE II), so I usually run DOSBox mounted to a DOS folder, with Norton Commander automatically booting and running in the background when I later boot up Civ.

win98 SE -

i need a tool/program (?)
that decreases that insane ( DOS ) processor usage
