Just started a new game and am finding myself a bit perplexed on where and how to do my initial build out. I have already done Bronze working and there is none near by. Thankfully I found horses not far off. I have a settler and warrior at the spices near the horses, but just not sure exactlly how ai want to build this out. Any suggestions for dot maps would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I would plop that second city 1 north of the horses so you are on the coast for more trade routes later, and there is no overlap with your capital. you miss out on 1 of the spices and the cows in the fat cross, but the spices are only good after you discover calendar later anyway. you are north of the equator I think so my tendency would be to expand south where there are more forests and fill up that whole area. there are too many jungles in the north and actually that thin connection of land with jungles north of your your capital is a good chokepoint for defense. I think once you get iron working one of those hills in the south will have iron

He's south of the equator. Tundra down there, Jungle above, he's in the southern hemisphere. Otherwise, I agree 1 N of horses or maybe 1 E of cows.

2w1n of horses
2w of rice
barracks will cover the maitenance of the distance
chariot (+ cats?) rush, whip barracks (get roads built if u are gonna use chariots)

1n of horses < plains_cows + freshwater + floodplain

I'd let the AI settle to in the southern (resourceless?) part of the penninsula and keep all of the cities from an AI to the north.

how come your city is size 3 and growing before you get a 2nd city out in sp?? Seeing stuff like that totaly perplex me. Your playing monarch with normal barbs? I would probably settle second city nw of the cows and explore south of the horses and hope for a food reasource there. It might be too late for that though. If so i would settle NW of the horses to get them hooked up asap. settling E of the cows will waste a floodplains. You wont have much issues with overlap in the early game anyways and the double floodplain city will be purely an econ city anyways(i would personaly cottage it) relying on the whip to get in stuff like granary and library.

Well I went 1 east of the cow. I was going to explore a little more but ran into a barbarian archer with my warrior.

After doing a little more exploring I found that I was isolated  . I decided to go ahead and play the game out.

I used the Oracle to pop Monarchy, I also made a strong push to Civil Service followed up by Paper. Right after that I met the Inca and was able to trade CS and Paper for a truckload of the techs I had passed by. I hated trading away paper, but I was able to get more techs then I would have by trading it alone later. I did the long plow on Education and also met Kuby. I lightbulbed Philosophy even though Tao had been found as neither had it yet and used it as trade bait. After that I thought hmm... Liberilism...

So anywho I got Lib and Nationhood as my prize. So far my best Isolated start to date, and now just have to get the power ranking up some more before the war mongers find me...
