Downloading maps

What do I do with the files of the maps after a download them? I am using the steam version of civ 4 now and don't know where to go. any help will be appreciated.

does the steam have a publicmaps folder .

You have to put them into the public maps folder of your installation, which should on a Vista/7 system with steam be in Program Files > Steam > steamapps > common > sid meier's civilization iv > Public maps.

If you have one of the addons, then look into the respective subfolders.
