I recently lost my conquest CD :( , so no I cant play because i need the cd in order to play the game. so i was wondering if it is illegal to download the game so that i could continue to play. i thought that it might not be illegal due to the fact that i had already purchased the game but then again i also thought that it would be illegal... so yeah i was just wondering

uhhm i fail to see why you would need to download the whole game just because of a lost cd... if you really have the game installed and just lost your cd, there are other solutions easier than downloading a full game (which would be illegal).

It is illegal, unless you buy it from a downloading site (a legal reputable site). You are permitted to make a backup copy of the disk, provided you do not sell / lend / or otherwise let it leave your hands.

The legal issue of the thing is disputable, supposing you have a proof of purchase. It would be illegal somewhere and legal somewhere else. Anyway, the hypothetic person who fileshare the ISO of the game and allow you to download it is doing something illegal for sure and everywhere.

An even more disputable thing is to download the no-cd patch, that would be enough for you to play the game. If you're in the USA you may be in violation of the DMCA - i'm not sure about that. Here in Italy, there are only laws on the copyright protection (that you wouldn't breach) and laws on property rights, that allow you to alter the game in any way, no-cd patch included, as long as you do it for personal use only.

EDIT: about the backup copy, here in Italy the right is granted, but in the USA there's always the DMCA around, copying a protected cd would mean breaking a protection mechanism... perhaps...
