How does it work. What units can you get? It seems to me that it is possible to get this insanly early and as such it might be very overpowered but i have yet to try it as i want to go for more advanced or specific strategies most of the time. Anyone have any idea?

So noone have any idea or tried it out?

Drafting is allowed with the Military State Labor Civic, but I don't think I ever used it.

I know that but what unit do you get? Warriors -> axemen-> champions -> etc? up the melee line? Can you draft vampires for example? What about religious units?

Any unit with the <iConscription> tag set to 1 can be drafted.

I believe that normally the strongest unit with this tag set that can be built in each city is the unit that is drafted, with possibly some random chances if there are multiple conscriptable units available.

Edit: Checking the CIV4UnitInfos.xml, it appears that only Warriors and Warrior UUs (beastmen, bloodpets) have <Conscription>1. This should probably be changed, at least to allow axemen and archers. Allowing Champions (or especially their UUs) doesn't seem like a good idea, either thematically or for game mechanics.

Edit: never mind. Edit 1. I stupidly assumed that this was a boolean, and that only values of 1 or 0 existed. I think that the higher numbers have to do whit the precedence of drafting (that the unit with the highest number is drafted) and/or the amount of population that drafting the unit costs. That would make much more sense, but I think that some of those units (heroes, vampires, etc) really shouldn't be draftable. I'll try to remember to change that in the next version of my modmod.

So drafting is basically useless then? No wonder you have access to it so fast. what does values of 2 and 4 etc mean? Are you sure those aren't draftable? I can at least draft axemen so it seems my inital intuition was correct(require training ground though). And champions(though they cost 2 pop). Ok tested this further. You can draft vampires but it do cost 3 pop. Still no clear idea of how exactly it works though? Can you get a full list of the draftable units? Even if i can find units with <Conscription> it is hard to say what unit it is from the xml.. I think the <iConscription> value is just how many pop they cost... Archers are probably draftable too but what tells you what units is draftable where and when?

archers, slingers, javelin throwers, arquebus, axeman, moroi, swordsman, balor,, berserker, brujah, battlemaster, champion, dragon slayer, sect of flies, vampire, crossbowman, flurry, freak, ogre warchief, Firebow, longbowman, pit beast, marksman, minotaur, nightwatch, phalanx, radiant guard, seraph, teutorix(yes a hero..), treant(no i have no idea how to draft these either), stoneskin ogre, beastman, bloodpet, warrior

These are the draftable units(with a value different than 0 in <iConscription></iConscription>

As you can see ogres aren't draftable... Ogre warchiefs however..
