Dromons

Dromon are especially dangerous in multiplayer, when a human player can make use of them against you. My friend had a stack of 15 Dromons. He put his military on board and sailed about the world conquering everything in his path. 2 AIs were destroyed and my other friend lost a secondary island. His main island was saved because he posted military units on every square of coast line, so the enemy army could not land. You must be very wary of the dromon in multiplayer.

I was wondering how long it would take you to find this, Xen ;)

strange thing that, I hardly ever swing by this part of the forums anymore, and on the one chance occasion that I do, I see this nice littl epost, not only about the Byzantines, but by one of the people here on the site that i would indeed consider a freind- its to bad out posting habits dont bring us into the same circle more often really, that said, you shoudl consider NESing a type of sub-gam ehere on the forum a try, though drop me a pM for some spifics if your curious about it ;)

oh, and for the record, despite the advantages the dromon may hold int he game, I still insist that a cataphract would have been cooler, at least visually ;)

They are even better, if made the Barbarian naval unit :-)

Agreed. I've toyed w/ Privateer as the Barbarian sea-unit. A wee-bit too un-balancing. I've settled on the Dromon.

I wish the Barbarian tree advanced ala CivII...You know, so when the Persians (etc.) wipe out huge swaths of Civ's, Barbarian (swordsmen, Keshiks, Guerrilla's...etc.) arise.

glad to hear these great things about the Dromon! I'm starting the Middle Ages conquest as the Byzantines, and just found out they can bombard shore installations and units... Very cool.

For barbarian ships, I made it privateers, gave them a -1 HPB and boosted offense. Not very useful, but adds a bit of mystery as to who's they are (and, barbarian camps making SODs of them, even with 1 hp, can take out a more modern ship (might even raise offense a bit...I want my galleys to be affraid. They always seem to get lucky on 1 HP, but still [/ramble]

But there was this inland bay in a game I played. Kind of a U shaped island that was very narrow sea at the top. I was building my galley fleet in there to take out the Byzantines who were (Ironically) straddling their empire across those straits. Well, in go ~20 galleys. Back down the bay come 10 Dromons, experienced from routing me, and blasting their way down the coast >_<
