Hey guys, I was so amazed (well, not really) when I found this out that I just had to share. Two things dealing with fonts:

1. The colors you can choose from are not just limited to the drop-down menu that you have. You can use any of the 216 web-safe colors. There are several websites that list these colors, and here's one of them. Scroll down to the chart. Notice the number-letter combinations at the bottom of each color square? That's what you type in the tags to make the text that color.*

(Hmm, colors, even the default ones, don't seem to be working for me at the moment.)

2. Just like with the colors, you're not limited to the five fonts (the default one, and the four in the "font" drop-down menu). You can use, AFAIK, any font that comes in Word. For example:

Tahoma: I'm typing in Tahoma! Yippee!

Webdings: I'm typing in Webdings! Yippee!

Milano LET: blah blah blah**

Tiranti Solid LET: John Hancock***

Just felt like sharing. :) Sorry if this was common knowledge, or was posted before, or is on the site somewhere, etc.

** increased to size 7, because the normal size doesn't display well

***size 6

Yeah, I probably do. ;)

Oh, and this means that we can all have (sorta) cursive signatures in our sigs! Example:

William Johnson

Too bad my real handwriting's not that neat. ;)

Edit: And for the Arabic among us: afdl;jkafjdl;a

I should start typing all my posts in that font just to annoy people. ;)

Hmm, well I do. I wonder if it's because I have Word and WordPerfect. I seriously doubt it, though. Maybe it's because of browser settings... :hmm:

Does it show up as those little boxes that are used when the computer can't display the characters, or does it show the default font, or does it not show anything?

If I quote that post, it shows the so-called cursive as Tiranti Solid LET (and it looks suspiciously like the other example of same) and the Arabic shows as WP Arabic Sihafa. Me not having WordPerfect, all I see is the text "afdl;jkafjdl;a" in a somewhat large and bold font. Probably the so-called Tiranti again.

Well, that's too bad... :( Can you see the Tahoma, Webdings, and Milano? I wonder if there's a list of "web-safe" fonts (like web-safe colors) that all browsers display correctly, while others only work for certain people.

i dont quite get it

I think that when you install something (I don't remember if it's IE or Word or even Windows) you get to answer the question: "Do you want to install all these weird foreign fonts? (Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and so on)" I suppose most people say no to that.

Edit:It doesn't work for me
You're trying colors? You're not supposed to use the RGB numbers, you're supposed to use the hex code numbers (FF00CC, etc.) For example:

blahblahblah

blahblahblah

(It seems that colors are working for me again. I wonder what happened that time.)

Edit: mrtn: Hmm, that makes sense.

It all depends on which fonts you have installed, just look into your Windows/Fonts folder. If you want to manually install new fonts, just download the file (it´s only a few kB) somewhere from the net and copy=install it to your fonts folder. Then you can use them, see them here and write with them in every Windows application that supports fonts.
:D

I discovered it a long time ago.

It's not that cool once you realize most people can't see the exotic font you used. :D

Woah, you knew about this?! How in the world could you know about this?

;) I meant that as in "I didn't discover this myself; Ivory told me about it." I know there were some people that already knew about it. :) And I'm surprised that you "discovered" this. I thought you would be taught this in admin school. ;)

Yeah, it's too bad really... I wish, just once, there could be an entire thread in Webdings. ;)
