dvd cannot be read

i bought cvi4 here in the uk and it was in a dvd.
i installed the game just fine and run it too but when afterwards i try to run it wouldn't.
the game was asking me to insert the cd-rom (even though it is a dvd rom) which was already in my dvd/cd-rw.
the model is qsi dvd/rw sdw-041. firmware version is dx35.
i was unable to find a better firmware version...
anything?

I had the same problem, but after I downgraded my videodrivers the problem disappeared.

A couple of other threads discusses this, but the short story is:
nVidia: downgrade to version 71.89
ATI: downgrade to version 4.1X (edit: and disable Smartgard)

strange you say it cause after i installed the game since graphics quality was poor i upgraded my graphics card drivers.
i cant uninstall them..do not know how. anyway its risky that my laptop wont boot or sommething...
any other ideas?
by the way my video card is a sis M661FX software version 3.70 driver ver 3.70
chip type sis 302 rev e1

You should be able to uninstall them from Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs

Windows will revert back to a basic VGA driver and boot. Install the older drivers after that.

the thing is since my video card does not support t&l technology i thought that updating the drivers might be a good idea... with thw old drivers i get to see (when i first played righ after installation) black terrain and eyes and mouth instead of whole faces.
there must be another way!!!

If your videocard doesn't support T&L, you're out of luck :-(

ok but why isnt he game running at all... why the dvd isnt read? it can't be because my video card does not support t&l!! being able to install and play it (even scrapped) makes me wonder why it persist not running the game again

juzt a check, do u have 2 drives?

i fixed the problem though with daemon tools
was all about safety

Hmm so I had the problem that the uk dvd brought up the autostart but I was not able install it (just didn't start corese of no cd) but after putting it into my dvd-writer everithing works fine now.
So perhaps it's not just a problem of your grafic-device it migth also be solved by updating the firmware of you dvd-drive
