I just did some upgrading and performed a fresh install last night. Now when I start Civ V the launcher does not give me the option for DX10 or DX11. Instead it is grayed out with "Update Required" listed. The thing is I've had this problem before and DXSetup fixed it for me, but I've ran DXSetup twice now and it's not working. Compatibility mode is also disabled.

It's almost like the game isn't recognizing my graphics card, because when I got into the game the video settings are defaulted very low.

Any thoughts on this or other fixes to try?

260.99 is the latest. It is also the same driver where running the DXSetup had worked before, on my previous install of Windows, and with my previous cpu and motherboard.

See the tech support FAQ, point 12. ;)

Uuups, sorry. So you did disable the compatibility mode for steam, and it still won't work?

The only thing that stands out in your DXdiag is that high end soundcard. I know from other games that those occasionally are the reason for some weird behaviour. You could try to uninstall the video and audio drivers, run DXsetup again and than reinstall the drivers. As a last resort you could try a DX uninstaller.

The video setting defaulting to lowish are normal behaviour in DX9 mode.

Uninstalled the game, manually removed all of the remaining Civ V directories, rebooted, reinstalled, works fine now. It was a sledgehammer of a fix, but it worked.
