I was the Iroquios on a huge pangea world today and used my 3 scouts so well I got mega-far ahead in the Tech race. I managed to have a Revolution and become a Republic by the year 500BC (or thereabouts).

Can anyone beat that?

No idea....I normally stay Despotism until I get Democracy. I will try though now that the challenge is out there! ;)

Wow a republic in 500 BC. I wonder when the ancient Roman civ became a republic. :D

Looking through the Tips and tactics forums there's some guy who was in the middle ages in 1000BC due to having an expansionist civ, so I guess he must have had his revolution already - this beats my record by so much I shall have to re-think my strategy.

Maybe I've started a challenge, so I'd better be the one who wins it - screenshots would be appreciated. Ta.

Here is one of my games with republic at1100BC.

usually I only manage to break through to a more culturally and technologically glorious middle age at around 500 B.C or so, give or take a coupla hundred years

It depends a lot on level, at Deity, if you go for early conquest you can often get republic or monarchy out of an opponent for peace around 500 BC

Ancient Rome turned republic pretty early, I'm not sure but I think they got rid of their king Tarquinius Superbus around 500 BC or so.....

(edit: thanx Zouave!)

In Greece, republics came even earlier!!!!!

"Can anyone beat that?" The Romans did. They became a Republic in 510 BC with the expulsion of the last Tarquinian king, Tarquinius Superbus. Establishment of a republic headed by two praetors (later called consuls) elected annually.

Earliest revolution?

In the game I'm playing now, I got Monarchy at 2470 B.C. (Regent Level). I've had a couple other games where I got it a couple turns or so sooner.

Play on a huge pangea map as an expansionists civ. Pump out nothing but scouts (except for the occasional warrior for MP). Set science to 0% and be researching Alphabet or Writing. This will get you Monarchy after about your 8th goody hut. Goody huts give you the cheapest tech that is available, that you are NOT researching. Unless the tech you are researching is the only option. By researching Alphabet, you block off that tech tree so the goody huts have no choice but to work towards Monarchy. Republic would be harder because it would be one of the last techs you get from goody huts. Hint: Be researching currency or Construction so a goody hut will get you republic for free.

When I play on huge map as expansionist I like to go and research the Wheel at medium tech rate, then Horseback Riding. Instead of actually researching Horseback riding, I put the science down to 0%.

Meanwhile I'm getting all the techs from Goody Huts and building tons of chariots. Then after a while finsh horseback riding, upgrade my chariots with all that gold I had been saving from no research and voila! I have a 30 horseman army.
