Early discussion on Victory Condition

I like cultural games personally. I would go for simultaneous 20K and 100K by choice. It is only emperor after all. ;)

I kind of like the idea of a long game too. My vote goes to histograph. I am somewhat intrigued by the idea of extra victory/loss conditions, but maybe they should be objectives to shoot for or pitfalls to avoid rather than concrete statements like "If we don't have 2000 gpt by 1950, we lose."

well since we're england, how about if we aren't making the most gpt for 10 turns (or another set number) between all the nations we know, we lose.

Well on that note we should go for domination victory, which seems to be the most appropriate for the English, after all they did once control vast amounts of land in the past. Would probably spoil the game by making us too powerful, but worth the thought anyway.

Just wondering: can DG veterans provide a list of victories in the previous games? Would provide an insight into past DGs.

In this case, I like histrograph victory. Generally I play for culture, but England is not optimal for that approach.

The most recent game was diplo. I think we have had spaceship, conquest, and domination wins in prior games, but not sure of the exact sequence.

Sticking it out to a histographic win would take about 10 terms (months) if we make 50 turns per month. I don't see the game being exciting after we reach the point of milking -- unless we get into a cycle of intentionally letting the AIs get going again and then slap them down before they can win by another condition. :satan:

I think people should re-think histographic. We could have 200 turns where the Presidents instruction thread will read "Press enter 10 times"

If we want a long game then 20K would be the way to go. Unfortunately we have already missed this opportunity. 130K seems favourite.

I actually think we should figure out our resources first, then decide victory condition.
Then we know what is feasible to go for.

I think that 20K culture probably puts too much emphasis on a single city and could detract from roleplay. Going for the 100K would spread things out a bit more and ensure that the entire empire needs to be producing culture.

Culture 100K.

It's a long-term objective, one that requires dedication to culture early and often. It will help enhance the Cultural elected positions as they track our culture and exhort (or is that extort...) our Governors to continue culture builds.

Our FA leaders need to evaluate the other leaders in culture, and work with the military on selective "urban renewal" of various opposing cities.

We probably missed the boat for 20K, and I agree with Daveshack in his opinions also. 100K is actually 130K for C3C large map. It also combines warfare with building and should appeal to a wide range of people. I'm with ravensfire and agree with what he wrote too. (It also happens to be my favourite VC). :)

When would it be appropriate to poll the options? The game is afoot and this decision needs to be made PDQ.

With a Culture 130 Target, I am definately for a Cabinet Reform as previuously stated.
Foreign/Affairs and Trade Consul to be separated out as a single office. Military Consul as a separate office and Science, Culture and Finance as a separate office. Domestic Consul should stand as it is. The Victory Condition of Culture alone does not sustain or subsidize keeping up a Culture Consul alone.

Mad-bax, the right person started this discussion - President DaveShack. Hopefully we'll see a poll soon on this, and start to see he, and the other leaders, use that information to guide and focus discussions by both consuls and directors.
