Any strong Mementos to unlock early on?

Use it now before the nerf hammer comes out!!
I just started my third game and chose the extra sight for scouts for the first time. HOLY MEMEMTO, this is quite a little advantage. It's not just quickly revealing the map that is useful...

It's so very quickly revealing all of the close independent powers that makes it wildly powerful.

Right away, and I mean like before I even completed the third build in my capital after the two scouts, I located the three independent powers and nearest other civ. It made me change some early thinking towards getting more influence so I can turn as many of them as possible. Before I shut it off last night, something happened (I forget what happened, maybe a narrative choice?) that gave my scouts +1 movement and +1 sight, so I'm a scouting fool in this game.

Has anyone mentioned the marco polo one yet? It pairs excellently with the scout vision for a pretty decent source of super early gold.

It's a policy card you unlock in the civics tree.

Extra policy slot is often useless since you unlocks slots faster than you gain new policies depending on the path you take. I’d go with sight for scouts and an attribute point.
Agree with you about the Antiquity Age. But it fits well for the transition after civs with many traditions.

As far as I know they don't... so it just makes the game easier. It might be like dropping the difficult of the game one or two steps depending on what Memento you pick. Personally I would never use them and se them as a complete waste of implementation to the game. If there was a switch to remove them from the game I would in a heart beat.
Why remove them? You just literally don't need to use them...some people and their hatred of OPTIONAL things is so bizarre.

My two favorites (at least in Antiquity) so far are:

Imago Mundi - the extra Scout Sight

and Lydian Lion - 200 Gold at the start of each Age.

Mundi not only allows Scouts to cover much more ground very fast and (usually) stay away from blundering into hostile IPs early on, but it has an even more important aspect: take your Scout to the coasts to the east and west, and Mundi into the sea - the extra sight distance will reveal the nearest land out there, which in turn allows you to grab a coastal site nearest to the stepping stones to Distant Lands - an enormous advantage when Exploration Age starts to get you to good Treasure Fleet settlement sites First.

Lydian Lion's 'extra' 200 Gold means that on the second turn you not only have a Scout built, but a second Scout or a Warrior Bought with the gold so that you 'jump start' your scouting of the area all around your Capital - another huge benefit in the Early Game.

For me it would be Imago Mundi and Bicorne Hat (+1 infantry movement speed).
Scouts search for goody huts and the infantry help them hoover up the revealed goody huts near independents.

Catherine's level 2 mementos Eagle Banner is quite strong and easy to unlock: +5% Science on cities per Great Work they contain (capped at 25%).
