I am not all that new to Civ III, but I can't get it in gear......
Was great at Civ II........
Question....I am playing the Babylonians......on the
second to the easiest level....
and I come in early contact with a Zulu scout....
maybe after 8 turns.....
I go to see their techs and the darn AI has 4 techs
how can the AI gettem so fast ??

Scouts move faster, enabling them to cover more territory. These scouts found goody huts and got a free tech from them.

I think thats the case as well. On warlord its almost impossible for the AI to be so far ahead of you ,unless you completely stop all your science.

Don't worry, you will catch up easily on Warlord. Oh and for future post could you mabye use a lilttle grammar;). I got a headache reading that post;).

The Zulu's have the expansionist trait, which means two things: 1.) They can build scouts, which have a movement factor of two; and 2.) When they pop a goody hut, they NEVER get barbarians. Therefore, they tend to get more techs.

Also: as Babylon, you start with Bronze Working and Ceremonial burial. The Zulus start with Pottery & Warrior code - that's probably two of the four! So technically, he's probably only two ahead of you. :)

From civ 2 your probably to used to dominate the ai from the beginning and be able to build a significant tech lead. Its hard to learn - i knwo that - that in civ 3 you have to catch up and a small tech lead is really great.
Before i learned this, when lagging behind at the start of the game there was always the little demon on my shoulder saying: 'give up, your always behind, how can you win without a techlead?'
Say 'SHUT UP' to this little demon and play and try to catch up and go into lead. And when you done this, you made a great leap towards the higher difficults. Just keep up and never give a game up before its really lost!
