I play it just so I know where all the enemies are... :D Plus, it's a lot of fun, but like someone said earlier, once you know where all the resources are, it get's a bit easy.

I love playing the 18 civ earth map, I dunno why its so fun its just so interesting to see how the world develops.

I usually tinker the the worldbuilder to help out some of the weaker civs. I always put Izzy on the coast, I put the Incans on the coast & remove a few mountains so he can access the inland ( although this rarely helps, he's always helpless ). I change the egypt desert horse to a plains horse & desert hill in capital to plains hill ( this makes egypt fairly strong ) I will also improve mansa's capital a bit from now on after seeing how bad his start is today.

I never rush the AI before construction on this map cause its way too easy ( even giving the AI archery & archers doesnt help ).

I played a game last night as Rome & shipped my army of cats, war elephants & praets over to Africa to grab Egypt & Hatty must of seen the writing on the wall cause she volunteered to be my vassal. I accepted & instead crushed Mansa with Russia & Saladin joining me on a war on the heathen buddist. Thats the 1st time I've ever seen a civ the same size & tech parity vassalize vouluntarily. ( it ended up being a huge mistake as she ended up beating me to many wonders )

If I play as a european power I'll usually beeline astro in an attempt to save america from aztec extermination, at least 90% of the time America is either gone or down to 1city in northern canada. I even gave America a super capital once ( 2 cow, 2 gold, etc ) & when I found North America Washington was now an aztec super capital.

Bigger is better (most of the time). So naturally I do play 18 civ maps often. There is only one problem with them though. Their just not quite big enough.

Played it a couple of times, as Persians and Egyptians.
I'm not particulary in fond of it, since I like being suprised by the geography.

From my experience, it could lead to intenses games, especially if you want to win by
conquest.

I'm gonna need to run a game with those modifications someday.
Depending on your Civ IV versions (I play BtS 3.19 standard), I can upload & send you the world builder file of Earth 18 Civs with the modifications I use.

How can I change the civs in this scenario? I want to play with 18 civs but i want them to be the dutch, koreans etc, to make europe and asia cramped and then leave africa and america completely empty for colonising???? help someone please!

Honestly, no, and I don't want to play it. It's cramped, you know where everything is, and it gets boring with an entire world split up between 8 or less powers(usually the amount of empires left by the time everyone can see everyone).

If I wanted to play on Earth, I'd play Europa Univeralis III.

Speaking of which, why no love for poor Castille and Aragon? 3:

i love this map.um using the great britain civilization instead of england.i have conquest culture and diplomatic victories on.also no barbs and no vassal states.i started of by getting chariots and galleys.captured france spain germany rome russia greece.china and india were geting big.
i colonized s.america.captured incas.fought china then india then china again.my border is about 6 aquares from beijing.captured mali.its now year 2021.im winning on all the victories i put on.just wondering has anyone seen a civ attacking from the new to the old world or vice versa?

I played once as France, it was pretty easy to do, my first target had been Germany followed by Rome. Then I went after Greece and Rome. Finally by that point I had astronomy to take out England. By that time Russia had grown powerful enough to be my vassal which I used to conquer Asia. Africa was a push over, it was sad almost taking out the Mali city. I moved it a square south so it could be a more powerful city.

Go into the WB save in you vanilla Public Maps folder (not the BtS one as it is a vanilla scenario). Starting at line 79 there will be entries for the civs that will be in the scenario. You can change the civ, leader and the starting location to whatever you want. The starting location is coordinates from the bottom left corner. Also, you may want to back up the old WB save if you think you ever might want to change it back.

Already dealt with that. I attached to this post my modified Rhye's Earth Map. It allows any civs, with random start locations, & it also includes modifications I deem necessary for gameplay improvement & map accurateness. But beware, start locations may place you in relatively hostile places (in one of my tests 3 civs appeared in Siberia).
