Usual problem of earth maps - insanely cramped Europe...

Personally, I would rather use earth map with europe and japan enlarged - how are you going to make Germany, England, France, Turkey playable? War here is impossible, hell it is beyond my mind how it is possible to maintain economy with 16 - citizen cities with few tiles of space :p :p :p

Other than that, mod looks awesome...

You're right that Europe will be cramped, which will make maneuvering for war difficult (but not impossible). However, worry not about maintaining an economy in these conditions: for my Standard map I have double checked to make sure that all the cities are growing (or at least stagnant) and will do the same for the Huge map before I release it. The mod has new techs and buildings to allow cities to grow to new heights (which also allows for cramped cities to thrive), and if that is not enough then I add resources to the city's worked tiles until it is sustainable.

BK, I feel like buying Civ5 just because I want to try your mod. I don't know what is it in your approach to modding that makes me so excited. I play Civ since Civ 1 but Civ 5 was huge disappointment and I dislike Steam so ... never bothered to get Civ 5. Especially I was told that AI is not good.

Do you have any autoplay results? Say 100 turns or so. And does this mod allow PBEM?

If you have $15 spare, I suggest buying the Humble Bundle.

I might set the mod to Autoplay for a couple of Hundred turns when I go to sleep tonight.

How about making an enlargened europe? Also, the unhappiness seems crazy.

Since there seems to be some demand for it, I'll look into creating an alternative version of the map with a larger Europe for those who want a bit more room. Concerning the happiness, that's just because I haven't yet added the buildings or social policies on my huge map. My method for map creation is to add cities, borders, resources, and improvements first, to make sure that everything fits (at least well enough) before I get to the buildings. I'll make sure that every civ is happy (or at least within striking distance) before I release.

Thanks; that's quite a compliment. Civ 5 is a fun game (especially with the expansions, they have improved the game significantly from it's release state), so if you can get it cheap I would say you might as well try it since you are a longtime civ fan. Unfortunately, and this is probably a big con on the pro/con ledger for you, is that it doesn't seem like multiplayer is supported for mods. I don't really play civ on multiplayer, so maybe there is a way, but I've not seen any multiplayer options when I've tried out other mods. Concerning AI, I'd say it's about as good as in BtS (unmodded). The AI does occasionally have some trouble with the tactics necessitated by 1 unit per tile, but not so much that it won't be able to punish you if you make mistakes.

I tried playing the beta version and had the same problem Europe and Asia were too cramp. You should try using this map instead since it cuts out the unless parts of Russia and enlarges Europe and Asia. It also allows for France and Germany to have at least four cities each. Also it gives space to add North Korea but, Canada may have to be taken out. I also believe Geodmon created an update version of this in his map pack mod.

Ok, thanks to BK and hint from TPangolin I finally got BNW. They added Pirates! to the bundle the very day of purchase so it was kind of a nice surprise.

Now first glance on the map and interface were rather dissapointing. BTS would allow for so much more depth and variety, I am simply wondering what exactly made you to move to the Civ 5? Just because it is 5? Remember the hint in Civ4: do not change civics as soon as they become available :) Spent just 10 minutes trying to locate my Spy :crazyeye:-- view button does not work!

I am not even talking about AI> Just the game mechanics. Can it represent modern world better and more realistically? Please show me how, I am just curious why would such a successful modder trade civ4 mechanics to civ5.

While that map you linked to does have the advantage of more room to maneuver, it is too distorted for my tastes and so I will not be using it in my mod. I will be providing an alternative version of the standard map with a slightly larger Europe for those who need more room, but I will not be making an entirely new map. There is also already a much larger map (size Huge) that I have finished and will be in the final release (but was not in the beta), so I think that should suffice.

I switched to civ5 modding both because it is the newest civ (I've played all of them since civ2) and because I like it. Sure, it does have some drawbacks when contrasted with 4, but it also has some improvements. The fixed borders, limited strategic resources, city-states, and fleshed out world congress are all things that will work well in a modern earth scenario. The only things I can think of that worked better for a modern scenario in civ4 over civ5 were stacking (which prevent things from getting cramped) and corporations (which aren't really necessary, but were a fun little touch).

Are you planning to replace Germany's UA to something more modern -- "German Efficiency", for example? Every plot with at least 2 :c5production: generates another :c5production:?

I had been thinking that they would need some change, since the scenario doesn't really have any barbarians, but I hadn't done anything about it yet. I like your suggestion and will probably implement something similar.

Scenario is unplayable if you create new trade routes. Some of them provide 20 gran science
