I'm sure this has been suggested before, but I can't find it in the forums.
Does anyone know (or failing that, have an idea) if it would be possible to mod Civ IV so that the on an earth map (one created for this purpose) the city names that are suggested would be the same as the nearest city in RL?
This would happen for AI civs and the human CIVs. The AI civs would accept the recommendations, and the recommended city names would be independent of the civ (e.g. you could have the french founding Frankfurt if they got there first).
So that in the end you end up with a map with cities in their real locations?
I'm guessing if this was possible it would be more than editting the XML and would require the SDK.
