Earth18Civ_FRv4.3

I would love some more feedback please - 73 views/downloads of most recent version !!!! :)

Hey FR, are you still working on this scenario? Was just wondering if you came up with the epic/mara speeds versions yet. Great scenario btw, love the barbs.

Hey Drak, thank you for your kind comments and I am very pleased you like the map :)
I have not the touched map/scenario in months so an epic/marathon version looks rather remote - of course anyone can pick the map up and mod it if they wish.
In fact I have not been playing Civ much for various RL reasons save for the occasional blast of Dune Wars.
Would love to know what Civs you have tried on my map and how you have found the map working out.

Took some getting used to, as I normally don't play on quick. Barbs I'm used too, as I almost always play with RB chk'd.

4 runs so far;

1) Mali- Lost. Quick speed got me, and I wasn't ready for the fast pace.

2) Japan - Lost. China invaded instead of heading south or taking out the mongols. wasn't expecting an amphib op... Oopsy.

3) England- Won, domination win. Early rush to France, next Spain and Rome, followed by Germ. Solidified borders, Tech'd like mad, waited until RE, then used UU's to devistating effect. fun game.

4) Greece- Won, Space race. This one was interesting. I expanded to 5 cities with nice resources, then bulb'd/sling shot my way to victory. Greece probably has the best map start that I've seen in awhile. Major powerhouse.

All in all, fun scenario. I think I'm going to tweak it a bit though for epic speed ( my preferred play style) and see what happens then. Good job on the scenario.

I've been making a world map for my own mod, with many modifications based off of this map. The base map is Rhye's Earth map, BTW, and it's not anywhere near finished.

Hawaii + California
OcoIbeW.jpg

Hawaii is now very much habitable, while Yelamu can easily grow to become a large city.

Improved Alaska
cEEzqO2.jpg

Alaxsxaq is now atleast somewhat worth taking (I'll eventually add some closer to the city.)

Improved CONUS and Canada
RF42yPE.jpg

Lots of new resources! Also, the USA is replaced with the Delaware Pacers (:p), who start with two cities.

Mexico and Central America
NdAfx96.jpg

Aztecs are replaced with Hidalgo's Mexico. They too start with 2 cities. The Mayans can be a problem, but aren't too big a deal. Note Cueva-Yaviza starts Incan now.

South America

Only real differences here are Incan Cueva-Yaviza and the fact that Incans from Qusqu can easily reinforce Cueva-Yaviza. They were the first civ in the Americas to have a 2-city start, and it helps a lot - in one game, they were on technical parity with Mali, Britain, and India!

South Africa

Basically the same, really.

Egypt + Ethiopia

Aksum is present instead of Djibouti - bigger threat/deterrent to an early Scramble for Africa. I haven't gotten to Arabia yet, though.

West Africa
taPD2U0.jpg

The big changes are nerfed Carthaginian barbs, one barb city in Morroco instead of two, and Koumbi Saleh, fresh from Earth 1000AD.

Western Europe

Simply shows the changes Rhye did to Europe. Spain is occasionally a major player in my games now, while in my most recent game, Rome was one of the most advanced civs!

Scandinavia

Big changes here - much larger and more accurate than the basegame's version. Most of the changes are based off this post.

Interesting. Just FYI bro, Hawaii has 5 major islands, so you can get Kamehameha 2 cities. Nice map work, Rhys is always a good base to start with. Is this the huge 18+ map? and what are your dimensions.

Hmnn. Mayans had a stone quarry (not reflected in current BTS map) 1s x 2w of their cap. Additionally, there is some supporting evidence that they had a colony in Cuba and Florida. If you don't mind, I'd like to save your SS and use for my tweaking purposes. Keep up the stellar work, and kudos for a well thought out map.

reflects the fact the Greek ancient history is one of unification, not expansion through settlement

Really? What about all the Greek colonies in South Italy, Sicily, and around the Black Sea?

What supporting evidence?

Can't comment on the map - other than that it looks OK, as I haven't played it.

There is some other interesting theories about the Chontal Mayans as well. Just use it as a key word search.

I could not get any of those links to work :/

Jeelen makes the point that Ancient Greece had colonies. For sure, in addition to Sicilia, Black Sea, also Asia Minor (Sinope) and North Africa. NE Libya is still called Cyrenaica from Greek colony of Kurene (Cyrene). Under Alexander of course, Persia and all the way to Afghanistan. As with all great empires, one has to get the homeland sorted out first (the Romans dominated Italy before the Roman Empire really began, same with Britain and British Empire etc).

I think the point I was making about ancient Greece is that the Classical Greek world was in the first place a collection of city states (Gr. poleis, plural of polis, stem polit- as in Metro-polit-an) from which the country (Gr. politeia, origin of polity) Hellas emerged.

Some updates on the map.

The big changes from Fluffy Rabbits map are a stronger Jerusalem and the presence of Hattusas. The archers make Jerusalem a tough foe for early Arabia.

Hattusas, meanwhile, helps keep Greece and Persia separate, similar to Mohenjo-Daro with Persia and India.

In my recent Mexican test game, Cancun flipped Taino-Caobana pretty early on. In that game, the Americas were ahead of most of the Old World, and the Egyptians, Romans, and Indians all got killed.

I am going to download it tonight, but as someone whos played most the civs on this map.. i was stunned to read

'7. England and Russia too strong;'

I am only an emperor player...but england is one of my harder games to play on the standard map!. Russia, rome!, persia, america are all easy mode on earth 18

Just read what youve done to the uk, not sure i wanna play that lol.

But will download and give feedback. Thanks for making the map.

Hi Paul, hope you enjoy the map :)

NB: (1) no city razing; (2) no barbs; (3) quick speed are essential settings (emphasis for all users). Map has been specifically designed for these three settings - any other settings to taste.

I have play-tested 7.9 a few times now, works very well (using K-Mod, Noble). In fact my last game as Russia indicates Russians are very strong in human hands - tends to be a bit weak as AI. I ignored Western Europe and tried to recreate present boundaries - worked a treat and was way ahead in tech and land albeit still in Monarchy and serfdom in late 20th century. A good player can probably build a space-ship by 1700 with the Russians :)

In my current game I built a city on the wooded hill in the Carpathians 4E of Boiiwarja (Vinogradov) and popped 3 GAs in it - took over most of Europe culturally without a shot fired. Cheesy :) Also a good to great spot, think I shall add wine to the tile. [Save uploaded - winning position if any one wants to finish my space-ship for me :scan:]

I find playing as England or France one can play peacefully until Astronomy and then invade North America - normally good for a space win as well. Whatever happens, one cannot permit Aztecs or Americans to dominate entire continent - that is a winning/unstoppable proposition.

For a tougher game, I think the more difficult civs are: Mali, Germans, Chinese, Japanese - though Japanese can tech amazingly with Monarchy and Caste System (so much food). Whichever civ one plays, however, none of the AI is particularly weak, unlike the original, which was the entire point of the redesign of this map.

I have a few tweaks in mind for v 8.0, however nothing important and they can wait. I am quite content with the balance, which is the main thing. In due course I wish to replace Americans with Native Americans.

As for all the barbs in Britain, may I suggest you try it - much more fun than it looks :) England very strong in human hands and tends to be strong as AI as well, though not terribly good at expansion.

Would love your feed-back, and from anybody else who loves/hates the map ! :goodjob:
