alrighty, i am on a huge map, and my palace is far far away from this other huge continent that i am in control of...and i am only producing 3/4 shields beacuse of massive corrution...i am under democracy right now...is there anything i can do other then switch goverments? or is that what i am going to have to do...

You can build a palace in the area where you want less corruption. But this will cause more corruption in your current capital. Are you in Vanilla? Have you got a Forbidden Palace yet? Because if the answers are yes and no, you'll get very good results from building a forbidden palace on the other continent.

Food is never effected by corruption, nuff said! :D

The other thing that's not affected by corruption is a specialist citizen. Irrigate everything and produce as many scientists or tax collectors as possible. Use the specialists to get your research or treasury (or both) rocking and rolling. You are going to have to deal with wasted shields in corrupt cities unless you switch to communism, which may or may not be a good idea.

i am geting into the future techs and i am playing domination or something so i don't care about the science, i just want gobs and gobs of monnnnnnnneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...i switched to communism and it seems that i am actually getting more income now with the reduction of corruption...and i was ever so confident in my democracy:cry: it hath failed i

edit:and i disaree with the tax collectors thing...i have noticed that if i use the police to reduce the corruption it produces at least 10 more gold from the city...by changing the tax collectors into police that tis

Hi dirtworm. I thinks its time you tried some homesyle mods.(mods that expand units and buildings but stay the same all around feel with complete pedia for all additions) There a few that add extra sm wonders for you and your foes to benift from. This way you can sail the seas and not look back. They also add tings like prison to further reduce curroption

i'll give that awhurl...i have a ton of mods downloaded...too wrapped up in my game to add them in and restart...

I'm in a similar situation. My empire has gotten too big and far away from my capital and the wasted shields from those cities are just unbearible. The most difficult part about it is those are cities I need the most to produce because they are closest to the other 2 remaining civs on my continent. They are just next to their borders. If they don't produce any units, it stops my advance. So basically, I have decided to just sit tight. I switched to Democracy and built some Police Stations and it seems to have helped alot. Though not near enought production as communism would have.

I thought about Communism but I just can't stand the pop rush method. I am able to rush far more buildings by just paying for them than I am with a pop rush.

Democracy is working for me. (Though I still wish I had used Republic from the start.)

One could always go into the editor and make all buildings reduce corruption.
but then i can't complain and moan on here:crazyeye:

Hi dirtworm. I would raise the optimal number of city number. That puts off when the corruption penalty kicks in for amount of citys in your empire

I say this cuz we play the same huge maps. I also say this cuz when done with the Balancer Reloaded, You now got the extra sm wonder Corruption killer called "Interpol" or the other Great wonder up for grabs called sorry forget, but that kills distance corrruption and with a higher optimal city number, nothings stopping you from starting a new colony in a far away land .Oh a prison helps the bad spots to.

I never understood why they gave us cops and courts to catch n' convict them corrupted cons but where do they go to get reformed?

See! the time has come my man! You must use a pro grade mod that keeps Civ3 in its natural state but that takes care of these glaring omissions!
You will see a ton of mods here but many are "to historically dependent for a game where you're supposed to re-write history" Neo Andserson*

The Balancer Reloaded adds more refined unit lines and building improvments and brings a chance to create your own 5th era that will make the endgame what you look forward to most (if you build production to levels that will power you there)

IN the Famous Balancer Reloaded (aka3rd Xpak), the corruption problem is a fun part of the game, one you know is possible to overcome.
A great example of this hurdle, not hinder type gamplay is with pollution in "Reloaded". If your not built up, researching future techs, building parks and sewers to curb pollution may become a strain on your econmy but not on your patience I assure you.
The AI isn't usually into building the added pollution controls so much as corruption killers, its more like a choice of becoming the only Greenzone as a handicap rather then cheezy high level handicaps

Sorry for going on so :)

Easiest way to combat corruption?

Get your cities into WLTXD!

IIRC there is an article about that in the War Academy.

Edit: right here.

:)

Strange. As I understand it, a policeman just recovers 1 corrupted gold and 1 corrupted shield, and if a city's sufficiently corrupt, it might not even do that. Changing taxmen into cops shouldn't increase the gold output of a very corrupt city, and shouldn't increase the gold output of a not so corrupt city by 10 gpt. Can you show us a couple of screenshots?

yeah i'll put a bunch on here...

It really depends on what kind of modifiers you have. For instance, in Rise and Rule, you get a ton of production enhancers. In that case, using a policeman to uncorrupt one shield, can gain you many more than that.

Not sure that epic has that kind of bonus, unless he was able to use the policeman to kick off WLT*D.

when i mentioned the 10 gold thing i meant that
ok 5 tax men seemed to actually produce less money then 5 policemen who uncorrupted 5 commerce

Gotcha. A 10-gold difference from changing one specialist seemed unlikely. How corrupt was that city? Policemen won't do much good in cities that are either very corrupt or very uncorrupt, though in the latter case they can help you micromanage shield output.
