Chieftain
Just won my first deity game. As it was custom it wasn't to hard. But the whole game was a kind of experiment anyways. I once played a jungle game with Mazatl, and had a city reach size 80, since I've wanted to try the limits of the Mazatl unique civic.
Setup:
Unrestricted leaders, 1000gold adv. start, all win types
Small world, quick game
Archepelago, low water, tiny islands, torriodal wrap
Civ: The already overpowered Mazatl, together with a non-agnostic leader, I choose Flauros
Adv start:
3 Cities
Tech: exp, fish, chant
1 boat and 1 farm
Early game:
Tech: started with education to get CS. As I had 1 gem and 1 gold I also got mining before going for CoS. Founded AV then got Sacrifice the Weak. Then onwards to sailing and bronze and finally towards Lost Lands.
Expanded with a few cities before LL, met Elohim just after finishing my 4'th city.
Mid game: Started expanding to other islands. Got techs which helped getting trade, health or happiness. Elohim joined AV. Met ljosalfar and amurites. LA were the strongest civ untill I went past them, amurites were weak.
LA declared war during my expansion to the closest islands. They took at city, my second one (had low def in all cities, pretty much). But they didn't reinforce their army there and I was able to get it back with Rosier and some champs and corpses. We were at war during the rest of the game.
Basium joined LA sometime and Hyborem also joined the game, didn't care much about them.
Late game: Continued to expand like crazy. Since LA didn't launch any new attacks I never really cared to build units, leaving, I think, 1/3+ of my cities without any def at all. At a point I thought the trade was enough to do a total restructure of my empire. Changed civics, CS > Repub, Rel -> Liberalism and Apprentice>Caste. It costed ALOT, but was worth it. Lowered research, got more happiness from gambling, and instead got my research from specialists.
End game: Won cultural around turn 240, liberalism means alot of culture... Last 20 turns or so I researched a new future tech every turn. Ended at FT 25 or so. Top cities we're around 50. Pretty much all cities under 40 grew 1 size per turn. This was undependant of the cities own yield, thus they we're fully supported with food from trade ;D A city with size large, all the trade modifiers gets insane with trade from another large city, on the other side of the map. Sadly enough my comp can't let me continue the game, as it usually crashes when there's to much in the game. It happend only a few turns after my win.
Mazatl + religion is a pretty harsh exploit don't you think? Is there any other insane mixes like this? What else can you do to get an easy deity win? (i will prolly start doing "normal" deity games now aswell).
Think I will test driving this strat even further tomorrow. Gonna do a duel game. Control the whole map, and the just let my cities grow, grow and grow, see if they'll ever stop. Duel size will mean less distance, and less trade, but if I just push FT to have em all happy and healthy...
