Eco damage

I dont understand how you are supposed to manage eco damage. Are you just supposed to terraform as little as possible early game? Even with hybrid forests/centauri preserves i still get eco damage from producing too many minerals/nutrients....(although i dont seem to get any eco damage from collecting energy).
 
Build many tree farms and hybrid forests. Not only forests one of the best tiles, each tree farm, hybrid forest, preserve and temple of the planet increases your mineral limit before eco damage by one.

If you have a sufficient large empire, you can eliminate eco damage all together by simply building forest farms and hybrid forests.
 
Somewhere between 10 and 15 I think. If you have -planet it will decrease the limit I think. Each fungal pop increases the limit by 1 as well.
 
I'd like to elaborate on Herfelt's reply. Each Tree Farm, Hybrid Forest, Centauri Preserve and Temple of Planet increases your clean mineral limit (= # minerals a base can produce before eco-damage occurs) by one, but only after at least one of your bases gets a fungal >pop<. (Each fungal >pop< also increases the clean mineral limit by one.) The increased clean mineral limit applies to all your bases. So, produce around 40 ED at one base (using supply crawlers). You should get a >pop< after a few turns. Now build Tree Farms (usually the first available ED-reducing facility) at multiple bases until ED disappears. Continue building the above-mentioned facilities throughout the game and your bases should remain free of ED. For more detailed information on how ED works, see this thread at Apolyton.

Another way to approach ED is to build Trance defenders and Empath Song attackers in high-mineral bases. When native life forms appear in >pop<s, harvest them for ECs.
 
So im supposed to keep popping fungus to increase my limit? The mineral limit is really killing me, i keep getting into wars where i don't have enough minerals for building stuff and supporting my units....

You need to get one >pop< and then build Tree Farms, etc. Any Tree Farms or other such facilities that are built before the first >pop< won't increase the clean mineral limit.

Usually this isn't an issue, since you get crawlers and eco engineering before tree farms are available.
 
Can you recycle tree farms, etc, then build them and recycle them constantly to increase the clean mineral limit?
