Which version of Civ3 are you using? The editor will only run in Mac OS X with Civ3 version 1.21g.

Make sure the CivEdit application is in the Civ3 folder, not in any other folder within the Civ3 folder.

Civ3 folder -> CivEdit application

i figured it out. i had the wrong version of civ3.
bi the way: when i save a file, do i add an extension?

No, not necessary.

so i just save it in 'maps' or 'scenarios' and open a game?
I'm no mod expert but I *think* ...

If you want new random games to use your mod then you need to back up your standard civ3mod.bic file and rename your modified one to replace it. If you haven't replaced your civ3mod.bic then you need to open it as a scenario, not a new game.

what do u mean civmod.bic?

The civmod.bic is the life blodd of the game. Do not open it w/ CivEdit unless you back it up (copy it to another folder named IMPORTANT). If not, and you make an error, you'll have to reinstall the game. If you do not alter the civ3mod.bic, you can still create scenarios as you wish, just place them in the scenario folder and then load scenario (as Alan said).

Its a file in the main Civ3 folder.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

There's a file in the main Civilization III folder called civ3mod.bic. That's where all the standard game rules are stored. If you want to change the rules, units, civs etc that are used for random map games then you have to replace that file. If you have created a map then you put it in scenarios and open it using Open scenario.

ok.
so i placed in the map 'scenarios' and it works. the only thing still bothering me is that i have to play with England. i have options when it comes to who i play against, but not who i play with.

mmmmm.
i figured out how to change the player i start with, but now it doesn't work. there is a setler, but i can't move it around, built a city or do anything.
strange . . . .

Sounds like your settler unit definition is broken. Did you edit any units?

not that i know of, but i was fooling around a bit.
how do i fix it?

As I said, I'm no expert, in fact I don't think I've ever tried to get a custom map going. I did dabble with the editor to see what it does once, as I was trying to see if I could create a practice game using the gotm special units. I noticed that the characteristics you set in the unit editor don't always stick, so it may be that you need to go back into the editor and check that the settler parameters are all reasonable. Open a copy of the 1.21g civ3mod.bic file to see what they should be. If they don't match then you'll have to reset them and try to make the changes stick.

There was an infamous little problem with the original editor in which it would delete all the information of the first item on the list for each different 'rules' menu item, e.x. Settler, Anarchy, Mine, Bronze Working, etc. This was resolved later. However, I THINK (though I have not done much testing for fear of damages) that if you attempt to open the rules editing box more than once in a single session, it will eliminate the information. Generally, I simply close the file and reopen it after every time that I open the rules box. But if it did wipe your info, not only would Settlers not work, but neither would Anarchy during a revolution, and mining would be instantaneous.

Probably difficult to get to Anarchy without a settler, but if you have a worker you could test the mining problem.

I still can't figure out why my Civ3Editor isn't working. I sent an email to Macsoft and the response I got was that it works fine on all of there computers, which I never doubted. I've done everything in the right order: I installed 1.21g, then I copied the editor into the Civ3 folder, clicked and then nothing. I'm so depressed.
I want MAPS!!!!

You have no location in your profile. What country versions are you running - both OS X and Civ3?

Does that exact same copy of 1.21g run to play standard random games?
