G'day all :)

I have had civ 3 for quite a while, and I like messing around in the basic civ3editor and seeing what I can come up with. I've discovered that a bunch of different changes have the potential to crash the game, so I've tried to avoid them mostly (although I never pinpointed what caused the crashes; something in civilizations tab, perhaps, but I've forgotten since). After a few months break, I came back and made something a bit more complicated; I changed names of almost all the units and all the civs, city improvements, and resources, as well as messing with the settings for a lot of the units. I also made the map as large as possible.

After doing all these relatively extreme changes, I loaded it up and it predictably immediately crashed. The version of Civ I am running is 1.07f, no expansions (and I'm on win 7) so I was wondering two things:
a) Is the crashing related to the version I'm running, and will a patch fix it?
b) If not, then is there a directory or list of 'what not to do with the civ editor' so I can change back any dangerous things?

Due to the scale of the changes I'd prefer not to brute-force it and change all the individual parameters of everything and keep checking if it works. That's why I asked question B. Relating to that, I did a few searches and some googling around these forums and the only thing I saw was the 16-color limit (which I made sure I was inside). So unless there is an answer to one of the two questions then I'm not sure what I'll do.
Anyway, thanks for you time, and I hope you might leave a comment so we can figure this problem out. :)

dreadofmondays, what was a game application error message when crash happened (not the Win standard "Do you want to send a report to improve Windows?")?

You should start by patching your game. Look in the downloads database for the latest patch.

I would also recommend buying the latest expansion. It allows for much more editing.

As far as I can tell there is no error message from civ; it immidiately brings up the prompt 'Civilization3.exe has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.
> Check online
> Close'
If I open 'Show Program Details', this is the result:

Falling asleep, will check back tomorrow. Thanks for the tip Yoda_Power, I'll try that.

Alright, once I installed the patch, the editor starting giving error messages, so I know what I need to change. I didn't realise that renaming a unit would reference a completely new one. Thanks for the help. :)
