I just downloaded an Civ3 editor from Macfiles. But it isn't working...
I downloaded it and put it in the Civ3 folder like it said to on the site, bu tI get this message whenever I try to do anything:

Assertion failed, file: Sprite.cpp, line: 729
or
Assertion failed, file:PropPageTerrain.cpp,line:520

it changes on different things I select. I don't know why it is doing this, do I need to get a patch update?
If anyone could help I would be very happy!
thx!

What versions of Civ3 and the editor are you running?

Version 1.32.1 of the editor is the one on this site, and that will only work with version 1.21g of Civ3 as far as I know. The patch to 1.21g from teh older CD versions is available here as well. Once you have created a .bic file in the editor it will run in version 1.29b2.

The editor currently works only with CivIII v1.21g (or is it f??) while the most recent version floating around somwhere here is 1.29b2.

Edit: Argh! Again too slow... -_-''

hi everybody

i'm a newb on this forum but a long time ctp player and a newb too in CivIII

well ... i read many posts about the civ editor for mac and i get the same problem ...

reinstalled twice my civ III with the right upgrade (121g), put the civ editor in the same root than the civ III application, etc ................. but impossible to open it ...

i run on a g4 bipro 1ghz and jaguar 10.2.8 ... in fact, my civ III vanilla game is in english but my os is in french, my mother tongue ...

could it be a prob with the os ( 10.2.8 ) or with the langage of the os ( it surprises me a lot b'cause many stuff in my computer and never met this problem before )

anyway, cool to see mac gamers around  but still sad to read such news as : still no conquests or PTW for mac gamers !!! the desert way as usually ....... lol

:D

It'll be the French OS. There's only an English Resource folder, so the French OS doesn't look in there for the files it needs.

- Show the package contents for the Editor in the Finder.

- Open Contents/Resources.

- Find the English.lproj folder and drag all the files out of it into Resources.

- Close everything and then try launching the Editor.

Let me know if it works, as I've never had any feeedback when I've suggested it before ! :mischief:

PS. Welcome to MacCivLand. :wavey:

thanx a lot for your answer allan ...

well ... i tried what u wrote and the content of the English.lproj folder replaced the folders with the same name inside ressources ...

closed everything but still the big silence ... civ3edit doesn't open himself ...

mmmmmh ... :crazyeye:

sorry that the feedback is negative ... i hoped so much i could open civedit ... :(

Interesting! I'm sure when I've looked before there were no copies of those resources in the main resources directory. If they were there all the time, then replacing them was never going to make any difference :(

In that case i'm stumped. There do seem to be two groups of people around here - those that can make the editor work and those that can't, and mostly there appears to be no cure for the second group. (The first group are beyond help as well  )

not at all ... no error message ... hello Brad ... and thanx to answer :D

for instance, i use Ieditciv which seems to work fine and i edit my units in the civ3modbic of the copy of my "moded" 121g vanilla game but i'm not really satisfied b'cause i have to give to the new units the behaviour of existing units ... and open the .bic file with page spinner is not a complete satisfaction to make some changes ...

well ... my english language is quite poor so hope u'll understand what i mean ! lololololololol :crazyeye:

I am new, but is there a way to zoom out in the editor so that one can see the overall pattern of their map?

Welcome :wavey:

I don't use the editor much, but I haven't found a way. It seems to be pretty basic in some respects such as this. You can load it up into Civ3 I guess and use the zoom option there. But that's not very convenient.

Hi !
Same problem: can't get the editor working. :(
My MacOs is in French ( but I don't think it plays a role).
I followed the recommended procedure ( re-installing version 1.21g on my hard disk, downloading the editor v1.32.1 and putting the app itself in the Civ3 folder). Double-clicking on the app generates an error message saying something got wrong in the installation.
 I noticed something strange: trying to rename the app ( by simply clicking on the name), I found out that it was NOT possible !!!
First time in my personal Mac history that it happens.
Does anyone have a clue ?

Phil

I am running Civ3 on a G4 powerbook running 10.3.8 - english version I believe

I have downloaded the editor, put it into the folder with the game applications and it will not launch.

Anybody have any ideas? I have read the other posts on this thread but I guess I was hopping someone might have something new to suggest.

Any thoughts very welcome.

10.3.3 is the latest public OS X ;)

As you haven't read anything else, I have the usual question ... are you running the editor with Civ3 1.21g? If you try to run it with any other version it will fail.

And you must put the plain editor application file directly into the Civ3 folder ... NOT inside the folder it comes in.

Sorry about the mistake, I am running 10.3.3.

I am running 1.21g and yes I put the application file directly into the Civ3 folder.

I do appreciate the responce though. AlanH you seem to care about the plight of editorless civ players. I hope the leads to good karma at the very least.

Ahem...
This might not be a scoop but I've come to the conclusion, after having tried all the solutions mentionned in this thread, that the editor WON'T work with any MacOs version previous to X ... i.e just forget about creating maps if you're running under 9.x.x.
The editor comes as a "package" which is a notion completely unknown for "niner's".
Now, if someone could prove me wrong, I'd be delighted !
