Effects of Civilization Traits...

It took me a while to figure out this little change from vanilla CivIV... the 'Civ Traits'. They're basically a Trait that each Civ always has, regardless of who leads them, right? Problem is, the EFFECTS of these traits apparently aren't written down anywhere in the Civilopedia - I can see that the Infernals are 'Fallow', the Svartalfir are 'Sinister' and the Hippus are 'Horselords', but what does it mean? I dunno. I can't even see what effect the traits of my own player-civ has.

Is there a list of Civ-trait-effects somewhere?

There's a banner for your nation in the top left corner of the screen and mousing over it shows some details of your leader traits. If you can't see that banner there's probably a key to bring it up.

Probably the best information source for this kind of stuff is Xienwolf's manual. You can download it here:

Ah, thanks - normally, I'd say "Sorry I didn't think of that myself", but really, there are so many 'FAQs' and 'Instructions' and 'Beginner's Info' threads around here, that it qualifies as a 'needle in haystack' scenario. :p

...which version of the game is that manual from? There seems to be some stuff covered in it that doesn't appear in my game - mostly Balseraph stuff, like a nifty-sounding 'Hall of Mirrors' and Slave Cages.

Unfortunately, it is old - but so is the Civilopedia. It is still probably the best source around but there have been a lot of changes/additions.

True, it's certainly proven useful, but... why'd you remove those things? You'd mostly expect new versions to add stuff (and fix bugs), not remove things. And slave-cages in the freakshow was such a nifty concept... I guess I can see how the Hall of Mirrors might've been overpowered, though...

The Hall of Mirrors is still in the game for the Balseraphs, it requires Alteration.

Oh.
...
Well, now I feel stupid. >_>; But in my defense, while I only recently started my Balseraph-run, I've fought against the Balseraph in several previous campaigns, and I've never known them to use the Hall of Mirrors. Which is probably for the best, since it sounds ludicrously overpowered.

Well, HALF of my question still stands - or are the Slave-Cages still there, just left out of the Civilopedia?

Hall of Mirrors and Slave Cages are definitely in-game.

Unfortunately, there are a number of things in base FFH2 that the AI won't build. My mod fixes this issue (and I believe that Denev's mod does as well) by having production handled in the DLL (which allows for my dynamic production selection) rather than python (which requires that every build possibility be explicitly defined).

As for the Civ Trait info, they aren't listed in the Civilopedia with all the other traits?

As far as I've been able to find, Traits aren't independently listed in the Civiliopedia at all - you can only find their effects by looking at the entry of a leader who possesses them. And since no leaders actually possess the Civ-traits...

Regardless, thanks for clearing this up for me. I guess the manual is more dependable than the in-game civilopedia... ^_^;
