So I'm playing a regular C3C game as the Egyptians. Towards the end of the game I decide to kick the Vikings around a liitle. I land on their continent and what do I find? Like half a dozen Elite (6/6) Ancient Cavalry. How the heck is that even possible? Some kind of glitch?

Ancient Cavalry get a +1HP bonus, so if you have the Statue of Zeus in a city with a barracks a Vet AC is a 5hp unit, if it kills an opponent and gets promoted, it becomes a Elite 6HP unit.

The Indian War Elephant also gets a +1HP bonus, so and Elite War Elephant is also a 6HP unit.

crusaders doesnt have extra hp...
last i remembered..

they just have GOOD attack and build forts... which i FIND LITTLE use for.

I think Crusaders get an extra HP point, not sure tho. :hmm: Plus all AC are born elite. :D
In RoR, legionaries get extra HP too. :D
BTW, for the screenshot, instead of useing tags, use [img][/img] tags. ;)[/QUO... barracks in the Statue of Zeus city or not..

No unit is born elite, it must be promoted.
5HPs does not mean elite status in this case. Though having 5HPs, a veteran AC (or War Elephant, respectively) is just... a veteran AC. You cannot get a MGL from a 5HP (=veteran) AC.
An elite AC has 6 HPs and you could get a MGL from it. So the promotion rank is not based on number of HPs here.

(Crusaders do certainly not have an additional HP.)

'Effectively elite'. I think that's what LLxerxes meant.

Ancient Cavalry are born with an added hit point, but not elite.

If there is a barracks in the city where Temple of Zeus is, then they are 5HP Veterans, if not they are 4HP Regulars. They do not get any Elite combat bonuses until they get promoted to elite status in combat.

Crusaders are born with the standard hit point assignments (3 Regular & 4 Veteran).

Well, in one of the patches, their defence was lowered to 1, so it kinda balance out...

The defense for the Ancient Cavalry is 1 only for MPTournament. In the epic game it still has a defense of 2.

v1.20
* MPTournament: Ancient Cavalry defense lowered from 2 to 1

In the current patch they have 2 defence so its not particularily balanced at the moment...

They are basically Gallic Swordsman on steroids, a unit that is still underrated by many.

That extra HP makes them perfect meat shields for my Ansar Warriors right now e.g. and greatly increases their effectiviness.

Now think of War Elephants and their +1 HP... often underestimated, too. :)

:wow: Ancient Cav and Ansar's  - I bet you are :spank: AI butt.

I really enjoyed using ansars and ancient cavalry together in one of my games. It really shows how good ancient cavalry is with the extra hit point since they can still fight effectively even when knights have arrived although by the end of the period I was relying heavily on Ansars and the remaining ancient cavalry were being used as temporary city defence units...

No unit is "effectively elite" unless it is elite because it can't produce a leader, the main purpose of elites.

the pedia describes 5hp defenders in the Napoleanic Conquest for the Military Tactics tech as elite even though they are vets :(
