I am considering sticking a nice set of EMG pickups into my guitar but I have a few questions

How easy are they to install. I have never installed a set of pickups myself but I know a few people who have replaced their pickups, just not to EMGs. Are there any major differences between installing EMGs rather than passive pickups

What is the sound like from them?

How often do the batteries need changed in them, what type of batteries does it take and how easy is it to change the batteries.

I probably won't be getting them anytime soon, because they are quite expensive, but I would just like some information on them.

I just put some Zakk Wylde EMG's in my guitar last year. They sound unbelievably awesome!

I've used all kinds of pickups over the years, from DiMarzios to Seymour Duncans to Bill Lawrence, etc., but I've never had active pickups in my six string guitars (in my bass I've got them from the factory).

But I was looking for something different...meatier, better tone, whatever I could find to give me a boost...so I did a lot of research to pinpoint what exactly I could find to fit my style.

Everything I read led me to the EMGs. And I have absolutely no regrets.

The clear tones ring with crystal clarity, but are smooth and deep with tone. When I crank up the gain, the EMGs give me a nice meaty tone, but not muddy at all. You can actually still hear each individual note of a guitar chord, even through the distortion. And soloing has been a dream, with a solid harmonics and really good sound no matter where you are playing on the neck.

The EMGs use a 9 volt battery. As long as you unplug your guitar when not in use, the battery should have a nice long life (plugging in your guitar activates the pickups).

I don't work on the electronics on my guitars, but prefer to let someone that does it for a living take care of it for me. It only cost me $20 for an install, so it was worth it to avoid the potential hassle.

Good luck, and excellent choice! Let me know if I can answer any of your questions, because these are pickups that will not do you wrong. :)
