I'm playing Civ III conquest on a large map on Emperor Lvl for the first time and am having a hard time getting off on the right foot.

I'm using CXXC spacing and am going for a Philophy to Republic slingshot.

I'm playing as the Mayans but I don't know
1.) What build sequence to use, Warrior, warrior, settler or what?
2.) When to build warrior verse spearman
3.) I like to build the pyramids, is it worth trying to build in emporer level or am I just waisting time.

thanks in advance for the help

You'll need to build at least one warrior early, for MP duty, and it is usually a good idea to build another for exploration. Generally, though, my priority is to get that first settler out absolutely as quickly as possible.

Mayans don't usually build spearmen, and you shouldn't overvalue spearmen in any case. Generally, build warriors in the very early game because they are quick to produce, and switch the Javelin Throwers when you can afford the shields.

I agree with ecuwins that you shouldn't scrtch-build the Pyramids. If you get an SGL, then go for it. Otherwise, if a nearby Civ builds them, it is a high priority target.

If I don't get the pyramids, how many graneries should I build? Usually I forget about the graneries and barracks and focus on getting the Pyrmids and Art of war. I'm playing on a Pangea map FYI.

I would build two granaries as a rule. They would go in the early towns. Usually the capitol, but I prefer to get them in towns with a food bonus. That may mean not using the capitol. If none had a food bonus, then the two with the most green and water.

I'd agree with this, as well. The Pyramids are an enormously powerful wonder, but also very expensive, given their position in the timeline. With an SGL, don't hesitate to build them. Without an SGL, don't hesitate to take them.

If you really want The Pyramids, play with no religious tribes, research Cermonial Burial, and play a bunch of starts until you get an SGL. Otherwise, unless you want a 20k game, I don't see how building The Pyramids on this level really works out as beneficial.

For Builds try going for an early worker in each city. Especially if both the growth and the production times are the same.

Early on, get 2-3 towns producing quick settlers, the others go workers and Barracks. its easier to win at Emperor with a aggressive strategy.

Specialise - if you have a city with more than 2 surplus food and reasonable sheilds - build a granery and pump settlers, if the sheilds are good build a barracks and pump military, if the food is good and the sheilds are poor - pump workers (and no military) for the far flung and corrupt stuff focus on running specialist farms.

You probably want 2 or 3 graneries, barracks in core cities, Focus on road building - both for the income, and the ability to move your troups around. Watch your maintainance - if it gets too high - start an invasion (winning cities will help support, as will losing units!)

the number of granaries depends on a few things:

1) How many food bonuses do you have?
2) How large is the map?
3) How many opponents you have?

if you are on a huge map with a lot of land, few opponents and several cows, I'd build as many granaries as I have cows and wheat. On a tiny map, I might build only 1 or 2. If I had a very crowded map, I might just build 1, as there won't be a lot of land.

If I had a tiny map and 3 cows, I might not build a granary, as I could get 6 turn settlers without one
