Emperor walkthrough. Washington!

Not had many more replies on this. I will prolly leave the game till the morning or after work.

I suspect AH next might be an idea while I prepare a settler and decide on a dot map. Need my warrior to work its way back to capital to scout to west.

I'd skip AH for now and get pottery first for cottages and cheap granary for whipping settlers and workers (ie build settler now then granary then start whipping). You are going to be in a race for cities now, is Joao coming from the south? If so perhaps you can block, but otherwise it looks like you'll need to throw out as many cities as possible and pay as you go with cottages. So grab as much green as possible.

My first city would probably be the hammer site south of the capital, grab the corn and mine all the hills. Put out workers here since we're expansive. If we have a better site with forest I'd go there and keep chopping out workers and settlers.

Keep the warrior down south and look for Joao gems and dyes. Put 2nd warrior out from the chop after mining the hill. You'll need a bunch of warriors to spawn bust as well if there is no water to the east. You'd rather not have barb cities popping up i think.

Gumbolt, I think atm it's going to be a bit tough to give you tangible advice. We just need to see more of the map.

I'll play some more turns and chop out a worker/settler once second warrior is built and capital reaches size 3.

Okies played to 2675bc i think it was.

I have done a possible dot map for new cities. I would be interested to see what changes people would make to these. I do want a science city below the capital. All that lush grass land!!!

I forgot to turn on resources grrrr!!! Sorry will try and fix this tomorrow.

Had a few minutes spare and added the resource bubbles for you:

Build lots of workers. I mean a ton. Don't forget roads out to your next city before the settler gets there. Wheres Joao??? :) Should be a lot of fun, and the recovery from expansion will be interesting. I'm tempted to shadow from here and take an off the wall tech path to compare the two games. But no because:

How are you going to deal with the barbs?

Barbs will be an issue. So much land it will be hard to fog bust it all. Still not found JoaII cities. Down south somewhere?

I can either try to go for mansonry and GW. Warriors and fog busters.

I would be interested for comments on the city plans I put out and what changes you lot would make.

Would you settle the gold city first or the production city below capital. Am i right to try and have 2 food resources in this?

Right you lot have a good 8 or so hours to ponder this before i return.

Thanks for the pics with resources parrot. :D

One south of site C for next city: still the 3 resources, coastal, riverside, let some room for a whale/corn site. And it has copper. Send two workers with the settler to chop a monument there... and build more in the cap!

Cheers

edit:  what I call site C is the sheep, clam, copper site...

You don't have that many health resources do you? Try to stick to fresh water sites.. Also can mush together cities in the green areas if they aren't going to make full use of the BFC. Copper takes care of barbs. Is HR going to be necessary for happiness?

use washinton alot as i like his story (walking into meetings afor a general was appointed wearing a uniform he had made or something -lol- and getting demoted in the brit army- )

and for the reasons you mentioned- no early unique unit, etc.

however, i am beginning to wonder if washinton might be one of the best leaders to cottage with?

at any rate it is interesting to see how others play. i would have actually taken the circle advice - and would have built on the hill- three tile distance to the 2nd city- port - gold city- to the west- with the intent of a late build north (3 tile) from there-

forgoing great wall- which seems likely - your on a hill- hunting /archery- safe for the early game-
oracle-code- and solid in the early game with third city (wherever) as science.

however- from the position i see- i would build three tiles away west and settle on the south side of that river. another city on the east coast on river- frontal- non coast cities -on rivers

Settle in a clockwise motion around hitting the (ala dirtyparrot's pics) cyan 1st and get that copper hooked up asap for some better busters, then go yellow, purple then red.

Hopefully by then you should be fogbusting with some axes. You can always take over barb cities (given they're were they supposed to be)

Lots of interesting advice.

Site C I will move 1 south. I will settle this first to acquire the copper!! Not planning a rush but defences are always welcomed. I will chop build monument too.

I will post an update once this is done. I am torn on writing or AH. I do want writing before my science dips. I am assuming I am alone with JoaII or a scout would of shown by now.

I will set about more workers in capital.

I have 6 forest around copper site and 3-4 workers. I could chop out stone henge? I have teched towards myst for the monument.

I just lost a warrior to a barb archer exploring near copper site.

In terms of Ai Justin has just showed up now!!! 2 imperialist Ai on one island???:eek:

Good news Troy. My exploring warrior down south has double forest movement. Worker steal? *whistles*

Spoiler shows 2 cities. :)

Go for it I think.
You'll get SH in about 10 turns. You'll get the culture pop in 2 turns after it being built (you'll get copper roughly at the same date as with a monument I think - but no land improvement) and some Great Prophet points. That may delay your first GS so might want to run 2 in the capital ASAP.

Lets give it a shot. only 3 workers at present 4th being built. Library still work in progress.

Minor risk we wont get it.

Okay 2 cities, 4 workers and barbs have killed my 2 woodsmen warrior. Not good!!!

I have chopped out Stone henge in the second city. A workboat has been chopped and a axe is on the build list.

Washington has built a settler and is working on a axemen.

We have the oracle option still. I have teched to priesthood.

Option for next city would be site E or gold city for commerce. Site E would offer a Oracle chop. I dont want to wonder spam but oracle is worth it.

ideas on what workers should be doing would be great.

What i need?

More workers. Some axemen to fight off barbs. Oracle. Cottages in washington.

I could use a worker pump city somewhere. The production city would be good for this.

Need to grow second city to size 3. Maybe use as a axe pump for now.

I could whip the axemen in washington as it has few worked tiles.

Any thoughts??

Have you got AH? Going for wonders without resources isn't what I would do... anyway it might just work, but with 2 imp AIs, I would focus on growth of your current cities to caps then spamming settlers ;)

AH is a issue. Prolly next on tech list.

To grow Washington to happiness cap this means no whipping. Washington does have a granary. I could also build a granary in New York. The axemen escort for the settler would have been nice with archers roaming. Defence is a major issue here.

So my PPP going forward.

Build 2-3 axemen for defence. One from Washington 2 from New York. One I will chop near New York. I would like a library in Washington but this needs writing.

I need to decide next city location. maybe 3 south of New York or location E to grab oracle so i have a tech for trade.

I do feel my strategy is getting muddled :(
