hi everyone again sorry that i've been posting so many threads but im a beginnger that has racked in only 2 months of gameplay so i need as much advice as i can ;)

well i'm playing a game on chieftan ( i'm now a warlord but i wanted to play one last game on chieftan) and well i playing on a huge map of Southern Europe that includes Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, Asia Minor and maybe some other modern countries but you get the picture

well i'm in France which is a huge chunk of land that is seperated from Spain mass by a Mountain Range that i call the Greek Isona Range and to the east by another mountain chain which i call the Unknown Range for now. well i've expanded my empire to fit in France almost except a little land is left to the south border and well my empire is right now big pumping out settlers and settling cities at a fast rate. now i'm in depotism and was making 21+ gpt and then i thought about switching to republic and i did so. i soon found out that after a few turns i was making only 10+ gpt and it was falling more :(

can someone help me on this because i'm doing so great and now i find that i'm in a bad shape of econamy that slowly will shrink and collapse

i would love some help here please ;)

Unit support, too many specialists, make markets, get luxuries. Let your cities grow.

after reading a lot about govs i want to know is communism good for huge empires like the one i have which is still growing

since by the time i have communism i think my empire will have most of northern Spain and the entire penisula of Italy and Sicily.

would you call that a big empire when the entire Europe takes up all of the space on a huge map with southern europe only

From what I've read, you've got to keep things in a human scale. I think that's what you're thinking of. A huge normally generated map of the world would probably be all the continents of this world; and each city would be something like a major city of a state in the USA. With your map, it focuses primarily on Southern Europe, but your cities can still grow beyond size 12 (well, when you get Hospitals; if you do) and each of your cities would be the same size as a huge normally generated world. Therefore, there would be more people in that area in a generated world than in the map/scenario.

Confusing, but that's how I interpreted what you said. (Because I'm odd like that...)

But if we're talking about the way the game sees it, it won't matter. Huge randomly generated map or scenario, it treats all tiles and such the same. I.E- even though something five squares away in your scenario would be only a square or less away in a random generated map, it still treats it as if it were a randomly generated map. (With the various penalties and cultural bonuses being the same.)

Also, for Government types, there isn't really one that's ideal, but if you're going for pure empire building over large distances and hardcore warmongering, i'd probably go with Communism. If you're a moderately sized state and want to expand your territories, go with Facism, but watch out for the size reduction; also, the corruption will probably be a bit crippling after a while. Ideally, Communism is good because every town, city and metro has a six unit support limit, and units over the limit are only one gold.

Plus, by the stage you need Communism, you'll probably have enough money and infrastructure not to seriously worry about overextending yourself. Basically, that's quoted from Ision's walkthrough in the War Academy. Go read that; Communism vs. Fascism- it's well written and explains the warmongering empire-building gov's quite well. :P

(Thanks for reading that long winded and bizzare post... :P)

thax a lot Mr Furious :D

also i have vanilla civ3 so fasicism isn't in it

and i've read the article Communism vs Fasicsm by Ision and that where i got the idea of switching to communism since it said that communism is good for large empires like mine ;)

P.S. your post although long gave me a lot of help thax Mr Furious :goodjob:

Heh, I'd be careful about my advice. I'm only newbie-ish to the game myself; but reading as much as you can is especially helpful; but thanks for showing the appreciation anyways. *Bows as hook comes off stage and yanks me off centre stage.*

heres a screenshot Panther requested: oh yeah the red is my empire which to me is big but to more experienced players it may not but i'm just a newbie so i cant say anything.look at my minimap and you can compare my empire to the other empires :D also this is not my full size of my empire but my empire is going to include soon to be mine Italy penisula and maybe some land north ;)

Suggestions:

-1/5 workers per city.
-since your in republic, irigate much much more. Change to mines after you have size12 cities.
-Cash purchase markets where you have roads. road = trade = $$$
-You have one huge honking map! I would suggest building An FP in a city where corruption is about half. Lets say in a city about 20 tiles away. Make sure all the tiles are worked around the city.
-Have your cities grouped around your palace and forbidden palace(FP).
-Build units and bonk some heads!

Communism is a VERY powerful government for large empires, but your problems are a little more basic. In that screenshot I see 3 irrigated tiles, 2 mined tiles, and a lot of roads connecting cities...

Open up the city view and look at the tiles that the citizens are working in that city. Any citizen working a totally unimproved tile could be netting you another gold per turn if that tile was roaded, another shield per turn if it was mined, some more food if it was irrigated...

Are your workers automated, or do you simply not have enough workers? Pick a couple of nice food-rich cities... something with some floodplains or food bonuses... and pump lots of workers out of them, and improve the terrain around your cities.

I'll post some links to some places that you can get some good pointers from if you want them...

I second what scout said, and I'll also add that you should not build marketplaces that won't finish for twelve trillion years if your city only has unimproved tiles. If that were my game, all those cities would be building workers right now, as they are too corrupt/unproductive, but have food. Especially those that aren't growing.

Make workers (one, two, three, whatever suits you) in almost all of your cities, and then be patient :)

hey scoutsout i would apprieciate the links for some fine pointers if you can!
Well...aside from the usual "read the war academy" advice, check out

> > This Thread < <

It's a special type of succession game; a "Training Game", in which 'student's' a game, with the advice of stronger players. This particular thread welcomes de-lurks and questions...

Cracker's "Opening Moves" piece in the war academy is excellent stuff as well...

For Warlord-Regent level games, the mantra "Mine Green, Irrigate Brown" works well enough...

Roads roads roads! Every one of those grasslands can have a road, and if a citizen works that tile, it will produce commerce. That's how you make money, science, etc, which is SOOO important in republic, monarchy, even communism! Rome was rich and strong because of their extensive road network (among other factors of course!)

Some of those grasslands would benefit from irrigation too, while others would benefit from mining...
