"English" Empire?

Two minor historical points
1. Roanoke Island refers to an island off the coast of virginia which had an early settlement.

2. The English often ruled much of the island of Eire (Ireland ) at the time that boast was written. This does not mean they were welcomed in any way by the local populace (Generally, they were not)

3. Americans are often imprecise in referring to countries, groups, etc and this is another example. We(I am an American) often use English and British interchangebly and therefore, incorrectly.

Do the last 9 posters realise they are arguing in a thread thats been dead for over 2 months?

Looks as if it's sprung back to life. :-D

So I'll mention that Roanoke Island (home of the Lost Colony, the only clue to the disappearance of which was the word "CROATOAN" carved into a tree) is in North Carolina, about forty or fifty miles south of the Virginia state line, between the Outer Banks and the mainland. The main towns are Manteo (tourism, charter fishing) and Wanchese commercial fishing). A few of the old-timers still speak a dialect flavored with Elizabethan English left over from the earliest days. Just to the east are the Outer Banks with the resort towns of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nag's Head, then the Atlantic Ocean. An excellent vacation destination!

There is a city in the Virginia mountains named Roanoke, and the Roanoke River runs east and gradually south from there to the Albemarle Sound. Near the mouth of the Sound is Roanoke Island.

To those of you who are displeased that England is an "empire" and so on, here's a conversion kit for you.

What it changes:
1. Changes the English flag and button to the shield portion of the UK coat of arms (The thingie with the English lions in opposite corners, the Scottish lion in one corner, and the Irish harp in the last one). According to my investigation, this was used in Victoria's time, so it's at least accurate for one of the monarchs in the game. Good enough?
2. Changes the name of the civ to Britain, British, British Empire.
(And incidentally, I think I left in my change making the "American Empire" into the "United States"; a bonus.)

Hey, we all know that Elizabeth I was queen of England, not all Britain, but Frederick II was king of Prussia, before Germany even existed, and the game has him as "German." So lighten up, install this in your My Games/Civilization IV/Custom Assets folder, and you can revert it all back to default when and if Firaxis gives us either a Scottish or a UK civilization, or whatever it is would please those of you who are upset.

Enjoy.:D
