One thing I don't like (and never have liked) is the time it takes to create military units and/or to re-enact epic battles. Now I have not played on a European map yet, but in Civilization III I always liked to play the Romans on a European map and try to conquer the Roman Empire in the classic world and seeing if I could hold out such a large empire till modern time, facing the Germans, Arabs, Russians, Vikings, and Celts as the major opponents.
It never worked. Even producing military unit after military unit it isn't till the 16th century till I finally got a reasonable empire. And this while Ceasar had slain the Gauls in about 4 years of time.
I would not mind an epic game that lasts even longer. 1 turn per year, and building city improvements and getting technologies is dramatically slowed down, however you can get a reasonable army up in time to do some conquering.
Rome started ti get stronger at abotu 500BC and did not go beyond italy till 100BC or so, but had conquered the known world at around 300AD.
Are any such mods possible or already here?
