Maybe it was just because I was playing on chieftan, but the game flew by... after 2 hrs I had like 15 great people (at least) and was already mining uranium...

This was playing on Normal speed, anyone have any experience on Epic speed. (at work so have to live vicariously through others)

The epic speed is 600 turns in the period 4000BC to 2050AD, in Civ3 this period lasted 540 turns, so it's actually made longer! :) I will only be playing the epical mode, no doubt in my heart! :D

Sounds like Epic is the only way to go! 2-3 hours for a Civ game? Sheeesh..

Yeah, and I think an huge map may be the only way for me as well... I was tired of my advisor saying build settlers, EXPAND EXPAND!!!! and (using american teenager vernacular) I was like where man? Though with financial and organized traits I had no issues with ICS... (Washington is the man)

How much of this faster game time down to having to wait less time for your next turn?

Thats a good point, but the eras just seem too quick, but that just be to me playing on a low difficulty to get a grasp on the new features...

Yeah I've been playing on normal, and I've also felt the game time going by too quickly. I'll try epic next time :)

So far its pretty fast for me, but ive only seen one other civ and im only like on year 600 BC. The maps do seem a little small though.....

Yeah, and resources are everywhere, much much harder to hoard them like Civ 3.

I picked a "small" map and was surprised at how small the map ended up... Much smaller then III. I am not complaining, I like shorter games. Playing on warlord for my first game and havent finished yet after 2-3 hr, but I have been trying out different things and maybe not as focused as I should be.

Just wish the civlopedia was better, why is that worse then it was in Civ III? Foolishness.

Really? My last game on Normal lasted 26 hours, and I finished in 1840 (more than 100 turns before 2050's ending date). I guess it all depends on how you play... :)

What difficulty are you playing on (normally) but perhaps I have yet to get to the point where the turns start lasting longer. I think i am only in the 15' 16' hundreds...

Thanks for your post SUllla, your walkthrough it fantastic and should be stickied.

I always liked the ability to change turns to 999. I really don't like to have to stop in 2050. also- can;t resources be set up before the game starts to be
more or less frequesnt as a game option?

Glad to hear that. I'm a bit relieved. My games on Normal will probably take twice as much time as that. ;) Epic speed, you said ? :crazyeye:

I have the same feeling... (I mean "normal's" too short time- and too small mapwise...).
Will go for Epic and a bigger map after work! ;)

Generally it was too fast paced for me and I didn't think enough about my decisions; the game seems to suck you into that habit... I have to fight against that and take my time tonight... ;)

Being European I don't have the game yet, but I do have one question and I hope that someone is able to answer it.

I remember that Civ 1 and Civ 2 games were way longer than average Civ 3 games (at least they were to my senses). Does anybody how long epic Civ 4 games are compared to the first two Civ games?

I have a question about game speed. Do you get more turns with Epic speed than in Normal speed? I tried Epic but it seemed like I was so far behind.

Well, I don't have the game, so I'm just judging by what people have said so far, and that's that the game flies by. Guess that's not always the case...
