Warlord
When Equipment is introduced are we going to see something akin to the following?
Axeman, Maceman, Pikeman, removed.
Warrior retained.
Equip with Weapons:
Swords/Axes: 35 production. +1 str. +10% city attack.
Maces: 95 production. +3 str. +25% vs melee.
Pikes: 95 production. +2 str. +50% vs mounted.
This way, you give a warrior a mace. It costs the same as the prior "Maceman" and has the same abilities, but it cuts down on the amount of clutter in the game. Perhaps a unit could use one set of armor, and one weapon at a time but be able to carry two weapons for flexibility.
Equipment could be done in several ways:
A: Similiar to the unit design mode of Alpha Centauri. Choose a base unit type, Soldier, Archer, Horseman. Pick what weapon your unit gets, pick what armor they get. A final cost is calculated based off of Base Unit + Selected Equipment. This might require a bit too much coding to be feasible, I am unsure as to the exact nature of "User Created Unit" types/slots and references in civilization 4.
B: Equipment is produced separately in your cities, your units pick them up to equip them.
C: A combination of the above. Units can be designed packaged with weapons/armor already. However, weapons and armor are removable and producable separately. The unit design mode is just to allow quick and easy design/production of units.
