Hey guys, is it possible to LOCK your era? Or.. glitch the game into making you unable to advance/your AI's unable to advance?

There's only one way I know how to stay in an old era for a long amount of time, which is
(NOTE: I HAVE CIVILIZATION 3:CONQUESTS COMPLETE EDITION) by going into the Civ3QEditors file, and editing the General Settings so that each technology requires at least 9999 turns to be discovered.

^I just did this a few hours ago, didn't play yet, but this is obviously the most efficient way (that I know of) of staying in one era for a large amount of time.

Also: I tend to edit a lot of units/civilizations/governments/etc in the Editor, such as names and stats, but when I start playing the game, it freezes around the time I get to learn the tech called "Invention", why is this?

Invention provide LB and Berserks. It also has Leo's. You could just add one required tech and make so only a non existing nation be allow to research. At least I think you could.

If I create another technology, what would I have to create so the game doesn't crash?

Go to the creation formum and look at some of the mods there and see how they do it. You could also ask for advice from people who actually have done things like. I know CCM has many additional techs.

It also disallows trading techs at a certain point. That slows down the tech pace. You couls also increase the cost factor to make tech slower to researcha nd increase their base cost.

But when I edit too much, the game freezes around the point where I research certain techs, the year will still be around the BC Era heading into AD.

How can I fix this?

Don't research any techs past a certain age, and kill all rivals that do.

I don't want to kill them LOL, I want to keep a busy game, a map with about 6/8 LIVING civilizations, with every pinch of the earth populated and controlled.

I'm going to test around

I would guess there is something wrong with the biq. Not that I have ever tried to do any modding. I would post the biq and the questions in the creation foum, where the experts are located.

Bud, I'm not the kind of person to know what that is. When I hear biq, I think of the phrase that "OwnagePranks" said, Biq Boi.

I'm not technically smart at all.

The file that you modify with the editor is a BIC, BIX or BIQ. That is just the file type and in C3C it is biq.

If you are modding the conquest one, it is conquiest.biq. It is not a good idea to mod it. Better to make a copy and rename it and mod that.

I don't see a "Conquests.biq", I only see "conquests.mb", and "conquests", which is the file that I edit using the "Civ3ConquestsEdit" file.

I made my own folder called "Edited" so when I save my changes, I put the file that was originally in the Civilization folder, in the "Edited" folder, and save the changes as a new "conquests" file.

I have the original, fresh, un-edited file in another folder on my desktop.
Is it possible to discuss this over X-Fire? or Ventrilo?

Hmmm, I am surprised that the moderators have not moved this to the Creation and Customization Forum, where it rightfully belongs.

Looks like the one called conquest is the biq. If you run out of the "edit folder", then it may be there. The scenario folder should have several that came with the game. they will have name.biq for each scenario.

When you select the type of game it will be you direct it to the proper folder to locate the biq it should use. The default is the the folder you show. If you select to play a scenario you get another folder and if you select to use civ-content you get still another. Each will have a biq that coresponds to the scenario or content you pick.

I'm sorry, It technically could fit under technical issues.. I started the thread purposely to find a way to lock the Era, I added another topic and that is what carried on :)

Yeah I figured, but I honestly don't need the information about the other folders, do you know why I crash sometimes?

I once edited a load of Civilizations names, I edited the stats of certain units, I edited the Governments, some General Settings, and a bit more, and it all worked a bit for the first few minutes of the game. Around the time where you get to the "Invention" technology (I don't think the tech has anything to do with it.. something close though), I freeze. The process in the Task Manager says "Not Responding".. so..

It is likely something wrong in the editing. If you are on a massive game thenot responding could clear in 2 or 3 minutes as I have run into that many times.

The way to changes programs is piece by piece. If you lots of changes at once and it fails, you have a hard time finding which change broke it. Agan I never modified the biq, so not an expert. Just someone who has seen a lot of things in the game. Try the creation forum for the experts..

They may have run into this issue.

You shouldn't modify you're biq, I would suggest making a new one, again, this can be found in the creation forum.

I'm sorry I'm not a mod I can't move this -.-

and I modify it all the time, I play around so I always give myself the upperhand, but I always have the original copy of the 'conquests' file so If I want to undo all the editing, I'll copy and paste the original copy over the edited copy

Either create a new thread, or if you want, I can PM a mod, since you're private message system won't be active until you have been a member for 5 days and have 5 posts.

iEspionage just start new thread in the creation forum and cut and paste anything you want and add it to the new thread. I am sure some of the people like Civinator could give you better advice.
