Error after downloading patch

i have an error after downloading the patch. It says that im missing "D3DX9_32.DLL", and that i should re-install the application.

Well, I've re-installed Civ 4, I've re-installed the patch, and i still get the same error. Im using Vanilla.

Does anyone else have this same problem? If so, does anyone else know how to fix it?

I don't have the new version of DirectX, but i dont think its asking for that.
 
I've been looking for an answer to the same problem. Someone posted in the fix-it list as well:

Anyone have any clues? because now I can't uninstall, and I cant play...
 
and how do we do that? because it was running earlier today, then the patch came out, and it stopped. Ive been looking for a newer version of DX9.0c, anyone know where to get it?
 
Know of anywhere else to get it? I apparently can't pass validation with a perfectly legit copy of windows >.<.

edit -- and thanks Gyathaar, I'm not trying to be pesky. I'm just aggrivated because the patch went from me playing peacefully with my dad earlier today to unable to launch or uninstall the game...
 
Directx won't download, or it won't install?

If you're getting windows genuine advantage issues, and you have a legit copy, then I would try talking with M$ tech support.

If you just can't download it, then, its not a great solution, but most PC game magazine disks normally have the latest directx packs on them.
 
Microsoft really have blown a brain-fuse this time...

I recall when installing software was easy...

Hi, Im back.

I've gotten the patch, I've downloaded the second choice of DirectX thing on the front page (the first one wouldnt work for some reason or another, though i have it downloaded, but i havent tried since i got the other one to work). Now i can run civilization 4, but whenever I log in on multiplayer, Civ 4 freezes and stops me from doing anything (locking me into the Civ 4 page).

Does anyone have a solution for this?
 
this patch sucks. after hours of updating reinstalling civ4 still doesnt run. Now i have an error about shading files

someone plz help.

I got that message after having added just the d3d-file I was missing. After doing the whole download and update with the "second" alternative in Gyathaars post (the 55MB zip) everything seems to work, at least i am able to start the game, don't know about any issues with multiplayer or such?
